AMD messed up with naming for 3800X vs 3700X, suggesting they are two different classes of CPUs when in fact they are not. They are exactly the same CPU with exact same everything, one being just slightly better binned than the other. This refresh "corrects" this mistake, by skipping a "3700XT" in the lineup. I just hope the 3800XT will not have the introductory price of the original 3800X, which was considerably more expensive than 3700X, for no reason whatsoever. Considering 3700X is under $/€ 300 right now, if they launch 3800XT at $/€ 400 nobody in their right mind will buy it. It needs to be close to 300 as well to make sense. 3600XT - 200 3800XT - 300 3900XT - 450 Anything more and this refresh will be a commercial failure.

For the moment, the original X have price lowered by around 20 Euro and the XT have the price of the actual X with extra frequency. Aviable soon. We will see...

What they should have done is name the 3700X the 3800 and of course have the 3800X. That would have been more consistent with their original naming scheme.

If it push the 3700x close to 200 usd it will sell like hotcakes ... But i think i am dreaming 😛

If you directly compare the 3700X and 3800X in terms of performance, you are correct. The difference comes in operating temperatures across the board coupled with lower operating voltages, on average. I know this to be true because I have two coworkers of mine that use a 3800X with the same AIO I have, and I run warmer than both of them with the same case. Ultimately it boils down to binning. There is a valid reason to buy the 3800X over the 3700X, it's just not practical and basically only worth the purchase if the cheaper part is sold out. :P Also, if these chips can clock as high as they are being advertised, people WILL buy these. Think about it. AMD already gives Intel a run for their money when they're stuck at 4.3GHz. Now imagine that same processor at 4.6-4.7GHz. With the gap in IPC that we can clearly see, any moderate clockspeed increases on AMD's side will be noticed.
