Just wait until Skylake with it's new chipset comes out. I bet demand for such motherboards will be noticably higher than for the current lineup anyhow. But we know the story anyways, PC market is dead, decreasing sales, yada yada yada. 🙄

Hardware manufacturers need to push software development as its lagging behind. What's the point of new hardware if your software can't use what you already have.

Hardware today s improperly utilized. APIs have high overhead, threading is still not used much in most of applications. DX12 will decrease demand for new CPUs which give just 10% increased single threaded performance bump. That as consequence will push down demand for MBs. At end of this year we get DX12, then gaming part of customers will for another 2 years have no reason to upgrade CPU/MB, because this bottleneck will be removed and main demand will be for more powerful GPUs. Simple as that, on DX11 with multithreading we can push maybe 2 millions primitives with CPU like i7-4790k - usually up to 800k. On DX12 even A10-7850k can do 10.5millions, or 6 millions on Pentium G3258. How long will it take for game makers to use all that and demand more? And when we will see GPUs capable to process that much stuff? R9-290x can process some 20millions primitives, but I do not think this generation cards will keep it that high with complicated stuff. Edit: Number of draw calls are from 3DMark, so they state per second per 30fps. In other words what I state as 1 million primitives is ability to process/generate 30millions per second. (But that number will not be well readable/comparable due to 3DMark not showing actual draw calls made per second and therefore people will expect their numbering.) Edit2: Fixed numbers, as I found bench for r9-290x on all mentioned CPUs

Give me Skylake and i'll them a motherboard sale 😀. I expected it to be out already but Intel have little need to rush it to market hence the mild refreshes of the i7/i5 series each year. I would pick up a new board and CPU but i've gone beyond the point of no return in that I've waited so long I'll just kick myself if i get one now when Skylake is so close. Same goes for GPU's tbh. Also as mentioned above, CPU power isn't as big a deal as it was years ago. I don't think my desktop and web browsing can really feel any faster and since games are barely using the CPU potential we have now I feel little practical need to upgrade, but the sweet smell of freshly unboxed hardware is always a lure 🤓.

No point in upgrading, really. My Sandy Bridge is pretty much up to par with the latest CPUs. Speed differences are marginal. Moore's law has hit a wall several years back, obviously. I wonder what became of IBM's research many years ago to switch from silicon CPUs to other materials. Back then, they said that their new materials would allow clock speeds upwards of 20GHz per core. And then they went silent. Or, they're waiting it out to milk the last drops of money from current tech before they introduce a new one?

Oh, that is so sad. The investors won't have enough money for the new Porsche 918, McLaren P1, Ferrari LaFerrari, Koenigsegg Regera and some "small" personal jets. I almost lost a tear there. F**k them. Employees are working their ass off to keep pumping money into bank accounts. They only see and want growth. They can never accept a decline. I mean, all these businesses work because there are a ton of people who can't really stop themselves from buying every piece of new tech. I for once, bought a new motherboard in 2007. In 2013 I bought a second hand notebook which still runs fantastic. With customers like me, they would go bankrupt!

Heck even the first generation i7s and are still relevant and still working great and still powerful to this day. Look at the x58 platform those users can do a cheap upgrade to a hex core Xeon if they wanted to. So I agree that Hardware developers need to tell the software developers to get on the ball here.

It depends how you use it, games are not the only use for a computer. A 5690K can be twice as fast as a 2500k in a heavily mutli-threaded/process environment. I recently moved from a 2700K @ 4.6 to a 4790K @ 4.6. In rFactor2 there is a significant improvement in performance. You probably don't even know what rFactor2 is but hey! I can't prove it but BF4 feels smoother.

This is likely to turn around once Win10 ships...when things finalize and developers begin to embrace D3d12 I think (and hope) to see a big turnaround. Microsoft really screwed the pooch when it decided to turn Windows 8 into a tablet OS--that, and they let D3d development slide as well. It was like Microsoft just threw a big bucket of ice-water on the PC industry, the company's bread & butter since Day 1. Go figure. Well, better late than never, I suppose...

Thats exactly what I did. I already had a Revision 2 motherboard with USB 3.0 and Sata 6 Gb's, I dropped in a hex core Xeon and have it a 4.5ghz with hyperthreading on. My i7 950 was @ 4.1 with HT on and ran hotter with a higher tdp as well. I saw no reason to ditch my X58 setup when the xeon only cost $70 upgrade too. I play all new games absolutely just fine and smooth.

Actually, the newer Intel stuff is significantly faster. Even x58 to x79 is a pretty decent jump in performance. Maybe you personally don't see the need to upgrade based on raw FPS numbers for the games you play, I can assure you that the newer stuff gives a much smoother experience in games and also in regular programs.

maybe nobody can afford the newer motherboards. so people are sticking with what they have and been replacing boards with same chipset if they break. if anything. they could keep selling boards for current and older chipsets. the one thing I hate about intel compared to amd. is the socket design. always changing and hard to find board for cpus that came out in 2013. not every one is going to spend money on a new build when they just built one 2 years ago well thats my excuse for intel boards. I can still buy brand new boards for an amd cpu that came out 4 years ago. may not have top performance. but the compatibility is still there.

I'm still on Sandy Bridge. My chip is at 4.8ghz for the past 2-3 years. In raw power its even faster than stock 4690k. Tell me, why would i upgrade? I dont need extra features on MB. I bet many Sandy users are waiting for Skylake and hoping it will finally bring us a reason to upgrade.

I've had no need to upgrade my mobo.. Been using RivE with a 3930k@4.8ghz for several years.. On par with any high end cpu/mobo out there..

If only software developed at even a comparable rate to hardware...DDR4 RAM - what for? I'm not saying it doesn't have a use, but hardware is grossly superior to the current software, especially in gaming...
