Well ECC memory would explain the prices. ECC has always been more expensive.

Early adoption premium I guess. Unless there is some huge difference, it will be a while before I upgrade. When I went from 6gb to 12gb of DDR3, I noticed little.

I'm really into downsizing my PC, these efficiency iterations have been great for that, get an ITX board, 750ti, 250watt PSU and you can fit a gaming PC into something smaller than the Xbox One lol. Nothing stresses out my 750ti, don't need the most expensive stuff any more to max out games, really the only difference is are you doing it at 60FPS or 200... really once you hit 60, don't need any more, especially with the poor quality of 120hrz + monitors, all the best ones are 60.

Here we have:
PC4-17000, voltage 1.2V - 280$ (DDR4, ECC, 2133MHz, CL15)
PC3-14900, voltage 1.50V - 200$ (DDR3, ECC. 1866MHz, CL13)
Those are for servers, and since there is no 2133MHz ECC DDR3 available I used fastest available.
In comparison for new product launch price is quite OK.
