THEY DIDN'T LISTEN TO FANS. Crysis 2/3 were ok, but not what Crysis 1 was. Fans asked for a more open world approach and we got a linear experience with a gimped nanosuit with LESS FUNCTIONALITY. That's what happens when you ignore your fans!

Best to leave the sinking ship.

I feel their games has been all about showing off wicked graphics with horrible gameplay and storyline. The graphic engines are pieces of art though.

Some people fail upwards. He is the one directly and indirectly responsible for the problems with Crysis3 and Ryse, as he was and partially is responsible for the problems and issues with CCP Games (who have been dropping staff for years and are bleeding money). This Napoleon-complex individual had no experience in the games industry prior to CCP, yet was given control where it was not justified. Always question someone who covets the successes of other people, yet criticises their failures when they are the one responsible for the failures. If you asked him what a polygon is, he'd probably say it is a dead parrot.

Good riddance to bad rubbish, unfortunately he will probably go to another studio and rot that also from the inside out.

If they lost people involved with the original Crysis I'd call it a loss, this, not so much.

Yeah it is a great engine but I'm actually happy to hear about their problems. If they run out of money, someone will buy the engine anyway and maybe actually do something useful with it. Now its just tech demo of state of the art graphics features. Around them are so complicated and buggy dev tools that nobody wants to licence them. And it doesnt help that Crytek cant produce any block-buster games with the engine themselves.

CIG should hire 'em.

Yeah, Crysis 1 I remember with great fondness, and even re-played it within the last year; Crysis 2 & 3 had no character, and were forgettable. It would be good if there's gonna be a Crysis 4 that they go back to a game design like Crysis 1.

I think there's a crisis at the studio. No pun intended. With the sales so low it was always inevitable that someone would go. I too would love to see a new Crysis based off Crysis 1 Go back to the drawing board and bring us Crysis 4 with all the good from the 1st and leave out what was so bad with 2/3. Then i think you would have a real winner on your hands.

Haven't made a good game since Far Cry 1 imo....Crysis was a stinker....Crysis 2 was a little more fun, but still didn't really like it. Didn't bother with Crysis 3 and it sounds like they are going tits up anyways so there probably won't be a Crysis 4. Graphics are cool, but it's all about game play. Fallout 3 had an outdated buggy engine when it came out but most people really liked it because it was fun. I would put the Crysis campaign in the same bucket as the contrived campaigns that they stuff into Battlefield games--and they are totally different in execution in that you can move all over the place in Crysis, but it was just a miss.

Crytek is only known for FC1 & Crysis, now at no3 its already milked to death and anything else they do seems rubbish.. >_>

You are speaking about the studio, but the game engine "Crytek Engine" is sold to other studio who work with it.. and the appliance of it is large, from MMO to FPS, RPG to strategy games.. The problem i see is they directly enter in competion with other studio who have too their own engine, Frostbyte etc. .. If every EA games was developped with Crytek engine, this will surely be different. But today most are with the Frostbyte engine. Then it is allways hard to really know what happend, maybe their games have not sell as they was intend, but enough for dont kill the studio. So there's surely something else behind it.

I kinda feel the same way. Crysis 1 was just a tech demo with some extremely nice looking levels (but they were designed terribly if you ask me in terms of layout). It went downhill with Crysis 2, which to me is still the best Crysis game as I played that from start to finish maxed out 60fps and had a blast. They had the graphics and programming side of things nailed, but they lacked story, writing, and depth to their games. Someone should buy the Crysis license and do one last game, but this time start from scratch (prequel maybe) and this time have a good writer and some good level designers. Cause god only knows their level design in Crysis 1, 2, and 3 were terrible.

So the person is leaving who was directly responsible for 2 of the major games that sunk the studio. And how is that bad for them? Ryse and Crysis 3 were not good games at all outside of the look at me factor. The gameplay was worse than a lot of new F2P games. And people mourn him leaving the studio like it is a loss? The studio is in a spiral in part because he had a poor vision and lacked the ability to make a good game. What is bad is that it took them this long to have him leave.

It's worse than that, those who supported him will no doubt find it hard to find work in the future due to their association with Napoleon. This guy is toxic to staff and creative teams - I strong recommend anyone in the industry reading these forums to ensure he never works in it again.

What specifically about the level design in 1 bothered you? I was mentally running through the game (as I was reading your comment) and I can't seem to remember thinking "that's just bad level design".
