That is pretty expencive router! I have not much info about routers but is this actually good or better than other routers? Or does it just have the GAMER ROG tax on it?

Here are the prices in the US: Newegg https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16833320331 Amazon https://www.amazon.com/Rapture-GT-AC5300-Tri-band-AC5300-Gigabit/dp/B071DPCKQ6/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1496276061&sr=8-1&keywords=ASUS+ROG+Rapture+Wireless-AC5300
Worth every $ as long as you are occultist. Place it under your desk, change angle of antennas to 34.377° from horizontal position and put it to 100% RX mode. Now space above your desk gets energized to point that even water surface can start atomize and rapidly create fog. Objects may even move "on their own". Just do not let your black cat on this table as she may get devilish form of cancer and change into something from another realm.

In terms of online gaming how much of a difference do these routers really make when comparing it to standard routers wired up with Gigabit Ethernet on a home network where bandwidth is not contested by other devices in the network - ie only the gaming PC accessing the network? I'm thinking there's not gonna be a difference in ping nor on jitter - I'm thinking this is mostly marketing!

That's why it has ethernet ports... for those who actually want it perfectly smooth. When it goes to wifi, I bet that may old cheap modded TP-LINK can contest this one in terms of added latency.

Most of those features are marketing gimmicks and can be done manually on a basic router. Plus you're probably spending $100+ extra for that ROG tag. The only thing worth it really are those 8 ports and that range boost. Im curious if I can get a wifi signal from down the street. 😀

Seems expensive as it doesn't include 802.11ad.

With this amount of money, the smartest move is to get a passively cooled Kaby Lake Celeron quad core box with an 8GB SSD and 4GB ram and double Intel Ethernet and AC wireless. Install LEDE on it and laugh to the bank. I wonder why people still buy this cr*p, seriously.

AD is still in its infancy. It's like when N was introduced. Hardly any devices support it now. I'd give it another year or 3 before I'd consider jumping on that.

Yeah, looks like most of us think these gamer routers are a waste of cash!
