Its hard to get to excited about memory. This should be nice boost for AMD's Zen chips once they are using DDR5. Im assuming we are talking after Zen 2 before we see DDR5 in use for AMD chips.

Wow, this would be a huge jump if these are meant to start at 4.4ghz, remember when ddr4 first came out it only went to 2133mhz at first, so wasnt a huge increase over ddr3 Can already see G.skills and corsair trying to push these to 7000mhz XD

looks like this kit i got for my ryzen last year will be the only ddr4 kit I had to buy and with current prices I say bring on the new tech they cant charge much more of a premium than they already do

CPUs need to get faster and apps need to demand more bandwidth before DDR5 will matter much. It would be cool to see DDR5 concentrate a little more on getting CAS down a few notches. If I am not mistaken I saw a vid where DDR4 4000 @ CAS 12 was stable on specific motherboards. It would be cool if that became normal instead of an extraordinary exception.

Latency on performance/enthusiast memory sets has actually overall gone down in recent years - if you look at the final actual latency in nanoseconds, and not just the CAS value (since the actual latency is a product of both speed and the memory timings) But of course we won't know yet which latencies entry-level DDR5 sets are going to use, and how those change in performance/enthusiast kits. The biggest problems with extremely tight timings is the memory controller in the CPU, though.

Standard speeds should be. DDR 1 : 400 DDR 2 : 800 DDR 3 : 1600 DDR 4 : 3200 DDR 5 : 6400

And DDR3 was 800/1066/1333 at first as well. Now we have DDR3 2133+. So I was 100% not surprised DDR4 launched at 2133.

you cant teach an old dog new tricks, usless ddr memory again and again .. selling this old tech forever - again. what about the timings ? 30 ?40 ? even my old ddr1 had better latency then this junk. how about hbm for system ram ?

The motherboard also factors in quite a bit. I watched a vid where DDR4 4000 CL 12 was attainable. The reason given was the single memory bank per channel. If DDR5 can 4X the memory on a stick it would be possible to create enthusiast boards with only 2 memory banks to leverage this latency improving technique while still allowing for huge memory capacity.

Wait a sec, they also working this out as the fastest available DDR 4 is 3200 which is bullsh!t. That is where they get an increase of 37.5%. But I can buy DDR 4 Gskill F4-4266, which will make DDR5 only 3% faster, I have seen reviews of DDR 4 4600 maybe even higher. That is why I say DDR5 standard speed should be 6400. I am guessing DDR5 will prob go all the way up to 9000 - 10000mhz

you got this wrong while we have ddr4 that goes to 3200 ... 3600 even close to 4000 .... those are after refinement of the process and binned memory chips you can not have a pile of ddr4 nand chips pick em up with a shovel and make modules that will run 3200 ... what so ever but you can do that if you run em on 2133 ! that's why ddr5 will start at 4400 because that's the frequency that almost any chip ever produced they will run !!! edit: also the voltage standardization goes down the drain ! 4200 modules they do not run on 1.2 v anymore

^ Exactly like how it took 4 years for DDR4 4266 kits to appear in 2016 as stated in the article.
