This adds to the reasons why I shoud get an X99 motherboard.

The Hyperkit thingy only works on ASUS motherboards afaik. Just a tip for anyone thinking of getting a NVMe device and wanting to use M2 with it.

What about older chipsets, I have a Z77,Z87, X79 motherboard? At this time NVMe based storage solutions have not been internally validated and supported via updated firmware. We are currently evaluating bandwidth and resource commit in enabling support on this older chipsets / platforms. Subscribe to PCDIY for updates.

This is a noob's question here, but does it pay off to download such a MB bios anyway, if you're not running such a device? Also I don't get it, do I need that add in piece with the rampage 5 to run a PCIe device? I wouldn't or am I wrong?

This new UEFI is not really needed if you are not using those types of device. But based on x99 deluxe bios releases, they do not list all the changes in their history logs (which is a bit dumb) Moreover, for the x99 deluxe, the usual mysterious "improve system stability" term is used for this new 1702. So I guess I will make the update even if I have not planned to use "Hyper Kit device" NVME is normally supported since 1401. Generally speaking, nvme support in UEFI is only needed if you plan to boot on that device. If used as a non-system drive, Linux or windows 7 and above have driver for it.
