@GREGIX show me a quality aircooler, that has a 5y warranty covering all components that get damaged if it fails, since corsair offers it on their AIOs. im using WC since 2005 when i started with a custom loop, not one failed, not one leaked during the time i had it, or anyone that bought it from me. yet ive replaced many broken air coolers (mainly stock ones) so yeah, i still stick with water. i know asus has quality stuff, but using an asetek pump (design) is not what i want at that price.
Hi there Noctua and many other companies offer good warranty on their products I have at home several air coolers which are ranging from Thermalright HR02 Macho which is 5 or 6 year old and still is like new, Noctua NH-D15 or NH-D14 etc which are like new and no issues with them Air cooler failure, did you ever seen failed air aftermarket cooler, I never, what can fail is fan, which is very easy to replace and usually is cheap to replace Regarding the custom water cooling leaking etc, have look in few years what I'm on custom water loop, 2 EK XE360 radiators failed on its own, one started to leak after 1 year or so and second is in friend loop where started to leak as well, fittings leaking have used Alphacool few fittings which has failed on my loop and wouldn't touch them again If I would run single CPU and GPU then I would be running air cooler for sure Hope this helps Thanks, Jura

With good air cooler you shouldn't be worried about the warranty for CPU or MB or RAM With AIO or any other water cooling gear, you always risk In my case experienced several times leaks from points which I wouldn't think it will or can happen As I said, nothing is bulletproof in life Hope this helps Thanks, Jura

REALLY!! now go to the corner and think about what you just said! It's like you won't buy a rock unless it has a 5 year warranty. Thats because besides the fan there is no moving parts thus the HS can NEVER fail. Alot of people have spare fans if one should fail just replace it, if an AIO leaks (my swiftech H220 did at the joint of the block) you are fked, if the pump fails you are fked without lube because the system will thermal shut down before you get into windows. Sure you can go through the pain of contacting support getting an RMA providing proof then sending the part back then waiting on a replacement.... This is down time and for some people this can be a huge thing, in my case it took swiftech to send a replacement 3 months!! Needless to say i gone out and bought an apogee block and EK res and pump combo which was total garbage. That failed 3 times, once pump died and the other two leaks started to happen in the cheap ass acrylic, seems them res and pump combos have major issues when i looked around if i recall it was the vibrations from the pump would fracture the acrylic and it happened about every 9 months. Also the water block was nickle copper and the rad was also copper and maybe the connectors were aluminium so may have mixed metals in the waterloop when i had to expand the loop from switchtech plastic connectors to accommodate the res and pump. It was my first watercooling setup and mixing aluminium with copper never really occurred to me and i doubt the algae inhibitor would have done anything for it.

Yeah first thing i did with mine is turn it down to 10% lol lucky the Crosshair VI VRM is pretty beefy so doesn't get hotter than 45C anyway, although with the DH15 it was 35C. Still well within acceptable thermal tolerances. Although if turned off they can reach 52C so they do indeed help put you don't need it running at max speed just something that provide a little air flow to move heat about so it can be captured by the exhaust fan.

What if you use it at idk 30-50% speeds is it still "loud" or what would be the threshold between loudness and cooling efficiency. Does it cool at all at your 10%?

50% is audible to me and don't like it, 20% is barely audible, i did edit my post but yes at 10% it still does cool. How effective it will be i guess depends on the motherboard being used and how efficient the heatsink is along with how many phases are being used.

I see thanks. I have a rather beefy passive cooling on my z87 deluxe too, also has a beefy 16phase vrm, but at times I feel it could be better.. guessing for better system stability at higher cpu Oc e.g. 4.7ghz or even 4.8ghz for that matter.. cant try 4.8ghz on current h90.. it's a bit too much šŸ˜€ not sure about its temps though can't monitor that.

@Dazz corner? why? cause you told me to? šŸ˜€ as you said, if the pump fails, the system shuts down. and i know if win doesnt boot, that something is wrong, same for most ppl in this forum. compared to an air cooler i get lower noise, which for me means inaudible (0.08S@800rpm) under full load, which gets me 60*C (3770@4ghz) and wont happen with HS. nor do i actually care IF it fails, as corsair gives me the money for ANY components i have to replace in case it does (fail), and not even limited to replacement with same, so i could easily use this to upgrade my rig. at an avg price difference of 10-40$ vs HS, not even that much cheaper. and in the past 13y not one item failed on any of my liquid systems, no matter if kit/aio or custom, so i have the opposite experience. as long as asetek is having issues with pumps, i prefer to buy (their coolers) at least from a company that gives me the money to buy new hardware (if it fails), and so far no brand that does that for air coolers.

The likes of the D15 and silver arrow are pretty much equivalent to a 240mm AIO with the same noise and typically within a couple of 2C from one another, although a Silver arrow and DH15 are fricking huge and you have to be careful with cases as i have noticed with a lot of new cases they have a max height of 150mm, while both of these are like 160mm they also add a bit of stress to the motherboard as with the fans attached they are around 1Kg but my Silver arrow cooled a 4790K with 1.38v @ 5GHz to 72C with the fans at 500rpms. about the same on a 1700 @ 4GHz 1.438v which doubles the core and threads. For me atleast if you want to get more over the likes of a DH15 or Silver arrow the only way to do that is with a 360mm rad. However the point is even if one fan fails you still have a redundant fan to still allow it to keep going, but in an AIO there is no redundant pump and once that fails the water is then boiled away as it's not going anywhere. Now i am sure Asetek have fully tested and has some endurance but it is a single point of failure none the less, and although yes in this forum people will know when something fails unfortunately for joe blogs he won't have a clue.

Yes it is expensive but so are the Noctua Fans they are like $75 just for 3 fans that adds alot to the cost of the unit, i have seen people keep asking to include Noctua fans for a long time on AIO's... now they have and it comes at a cost... of course. I see alot of people complain about ROG stuff being expensive, they aren't really but they do throw in alot of extra stuff which increases the cost. E.g A case i am looking at Lian Li PC Case pc-o11wgx (ROG certified) thats Ā£300, now you can get a basic model similar to this Lian Li pc-o11d which is Ā£127 so less than half but is made of steel. However the o11wgx is a aluminium case so it's closet kin is infact the o11wxc which is Ā£243 which still costs less, however the o11wgx also comes with vertical GPU mount which costs a further Ā£79....... so it does come out cheaper than if you bought them separately. Motherboards they are typically the most expensive too but they have the best and most well optimised BIOS of anything out there they typically have the beefiest VRM's which is why the 1# overclocks out there are always on ROG motherboards, they have the best LN2 support. Now granted most people don't need such features but they are not free to do or develop which adds to the over all cost of the unit. If you are looking at something basic for a good price then look away from ROG stuff they cater towards a different crowd.
