Wow, a 2000Hz polling rate! That's just a gimmick right - I mean 1000Hz mice have a response time of 1ms, while the 2000Hz will give you 0.5ms response time - that size of difference just isn't noticeable or significant. Just chasing numbers I think!

Well, it's got laser sensor, which is a bit unfortunate in my opinion. Perhaps they want to use so high polling to control acceleration issues plaguing laser mice.

its been like 10 years where all this "gaming" labelling of hardware products has started... gimmick LEDs, rainbow light keyboards, funny shaped mouses, 1 bazillion DPI.... as an oldschool gamer i really must say i hate this as real solid gaming products like mx518 dont get their deserved successor. at the moment i use a sharkoon optical mouse which has good tech specs but ergonomics are not 100% fine like they were with mx518 for example or even MS intelli mouses etc. everytime i see advertisement for those products i want to vomit. because i know 15 year old esport fanboys are getting caught by that adverts and they dont know they can have better mice and keyboards for half the price. and by better i dont mean more shiny. i just mean, MORE reliable, same tech spechs, half price.

I wonder if this is going to be another of those tiny mice that are next to impossible to use for somebody like me? I'm still looking for another mouse like my old Microsoft Sidewinder X5. I cannot hold onto these tiny little mice that have become so common nowadays... Probably why every Microsoft mouse I find now cost $300+....

It's a very abstract looking thing.

I actually just ordered a laser mouse (first one for me) as I wanted something a bit larger (fingers starting to get stiff and sore after using small mice over the years) and saw the Func MS-3 Rev.2 for 19€ and couldn't resist. Is the acceleration really bad? Currently using a wireless Logitech G602, but it is too small for me. :3eyes:

Higher polling would probably accentuate any kind of issues like that. What's the problem with laser mice?

Looks like it has a pair of eyes an nose and a mouth sitting on that charging pad. In fact lately most things asus made had some kind of a face in it design. The mouse looks like it would be uncomfortable.

My original Roccat Kone was laser based, had no acceleration. It all depends on processing unit inside. (if any) Now I have Kone XTD Optical. It behaves same way. But there is little problem with high polling rate. USB has certain buffering method and timing done in USB driver. And while USB HW can do better, it is software limitation which put all previous mouses to 1000Hz. Even if ASUS brings 2000Hz, there will still be that MS USB Host Controller driver which will cause same time variance as with 1000Hz mouse. Btw, there is thread on OCN with driver + tooling allowing some mouses to reach up to 8000Hz as it is based on custom USB Host Controller driver.

I feel like the Logitech G502 Proteus Core is the deserved successor to the mx518...I just wish it was slightly wider.

I think the amount of acceleration can vary from sensor to sensor, so you can't say all models of laser mice will have the same acceleration issues. I have a laser mouse, a G9x, and I tried switching to a fairly cheap but well reviewed optical mouse (to supposedly avoid any acceleration) and I found the G9x far more precise and accurate - only a very small amount of acceleration on the G9x and mostly only when moving the mouse extremely fast, I play with quite high sensitivity so don't need to move the mouse at ridiculous speeds. I think the most important thing in a mouse is how comfortable it is to use, tuning the lift off distance with extra mouse feet if necessary, and using a mouse pad which matches well with the sensor & provides the amount of fricition that you find most effective. I'd recommend a hard pad (rather than cloth) for laser mice, Steelseries 4HD pad tracks really accurately with G9x compared to cloth pads for example.

Agreed... switching from Razor optical mice i used for yrs to a laser mouse (Roccat), much more sensitive and responsive, night and day imo.
