Leaning towards SFF builds?

Good to see - I'm tired of these gargantuan heatsinks on mid-tier GPUs.

they will be my go-to 1440p gpus for builds. the 6800XT Dual was very successful for my hobby builds. i'm a big fan of the Hyte Revolt 3 case with the 700w psu option - total cost less than $140 but there is a 328mm limit on GPU length. so far i've been using Sapphire Pulse 7800xt's this gen, it'll be nice to have a choice and a reminder that a top notch 1440p entire system can be had for the price of an RTX4080S but in any case this is good news for the market even if Asus was milking the TUF for too long

Sure, but isnt 1440p 144Hz pretty much standard mid/low mid at this time? Seems those type of displays at least are very affordable and in plenty of supply.

I would still want a decent cooler on my gpu. I hate the likes of msi ventus 2x or some KFA2 cheap looking cooler on my 600€ 4070. The build quality of something like Nitro+ 7800xt looks like another class entirely.

There's nothing wrong with having a 300mm 3x slot 4070, but I would like there to be options that are smaller. It doesn't have to look cheap either; in fact, I would argue they shouldn't cheap out considering the manufacturer has to compensate for either fewer fans or less fin surface area. Shrinking to 280mm and 2.5 slots doesn't count; they're not smaller in a way that actually matters.

No, mister. I doubt there are many mid tier cards who can drive 144 fps at 1440p. Here's hogwards legacy and a couple others, and even rtx4090 is struggling to get up there. [Spoiler]

You forgot about frame generation and fluid motion frames. You can get there using these tech.

we are spoiled but technically 1080p high refresh is the current std as that's the bulk of cards in the market. and i was not skimping on the components of that theoretical build : 7800X3D, 2 Tb gen 4, 280mm aio, DDR 5 6400 cl 32, and a b650 itx. you could save another $100 by going to an A series itx mobo or going AM4

Despite looking great and immersive sometimes i regret going 1440 ultrawide as it can get very demanding. Always getting like 20-25% less performance then 16:9 and basically limited to a 16gb vram gpus and having less choices to upgrade.

Literally the reason I bit the bullet on the 4080 haha, otherwise I was going to hold out until the 5000 series. No regrets though.

true and something to bear in mind for those who want the sexeh WQHD monitors... pretty much why i'm running a RX7900XT on my 1440p system

Going UW was probably the most significant upgrade I've made in years in regards to gaming for sure.

I was counting only real frames, but you are right, Mister Undying, most new titles have frame generation and upscaling available.

Yeah, at this stage I wouldn't have it any other way.

Right? It actually feels claustrophobic looking at a standard 16:9 27" screen now, for me anyway. Which is also why I am a bit concerned that all the new panels have 8/900R curve, I feel that may be too much for my photo editing side of things.

You can always lower the settings. I also have a 34 1440p UW but the resolution is too small for the size of the screen, so i use VSR to increase the resolution to 3440x1440. Games look amazing this way but it`s very demanding.

What do you mean? 3440x1440 is the native resolution. Maybe you went beyond that to 5120x1440 using vsr 😛

Then i`m probably mixing up resolutions. My screen native resolution is 2560x1080 but i play games at 3440x1440, is this 1440p? But i can run some games at 5120x1440, like Doom, at they look even better. But i would also like a better card because my current one struggles a little in the most recent games. Let`s see what Nvidia and AMD bring out next gen.

No thats a native 1080p ultrawide that your using. Now i understand why you use VSR as your gpu can render alot more pixels.
