12.9 inches, now that's my kinda size. Finally something not for kids and made for grown ups with an agenda.

It kinda reminds me Samsung Note Pro 12", just released later, being way more expensive, and having stylus as a $100 option. It's cool that they added some really fast CPU and variable refresh rates, but at this price, I'd rather thing about Surface Pro

A little large for a tablet, however, great for those wanting something bigger than the usual 8-11'' size...

Ha ha. That's brilliant! He did that in 2012? What foresight! I have an Apple Smart Cover on my iPad Air and it is very handy so the new Smart Cover with keyboard looked like a great idea - can't believe they are looking for $169 for it though. Very expensive. I'll bet that translates to €170 or more over here too...

Hopefully this will force Samsung to actually do something with their S-Pen stylus. The hardware is great but what's the point when there's no software that supports it..? Also does this Apple stylus do something amazing? What hardware's inside it? Samsung S-pen = $10, Apple Pencil = $99. Am I missing something here?

It gives the user the self satisfaction that they can afford to spend 100 dollars on something worth 10. And that's worth more than money.

Uh no. It has support for tilt and significantly more pressure sensitivity points than the S-Pen. It also communicates with the tablet in order to reduce latency and support the tilt function. It's essentially a better version of the Microsoft Surface Pen which retails for $50. Does everyone need all that stuff? Probably not, it's mostly targeted for artists, but saying it's $100 for something worth $10 is disingenuous.

Going this route, I wonder how close can it be to Wacom Intuos.

The kind of people for whom this thing will be useful would have to pay more to actually use it fruitfully. Meh. Here I was thinking of giving my iPad 3 away and not replacing it.

Exactly my thoughts, I would Surface Pro for the same price.

At those insane prices I could get a decent laptop with much more functionality just no touch screen.

That cartoon is actually 3 years old so it was a little bit of fortune telling to be sure lol.
To be perfectly fair to this situation, it doesn't take a clairvoyant to figure out where Apple is going to "innovate" every year. these guys are perpetual "reinventing the wheel"ers. Only problem is, they charge as if they've invented sliced bread. Every year I see these conferences and people get all hyped and will trip over themselves to get the latest and greatest and I keep thinking that at some point people will actually wake up to the reality that they are paying a premium price for NOT premium quality items, but year after year I am shocked at how willing people are to follow the hype.

I know and that worries me. It's amazing how ignorant the masses can be.

Everytime I see the word "Retina" display I cringe, especially when being used by someone not employed by Apple. Can we stop with the Apple marketing already? It's just an HD display, like everyone else has. Adding the word "retina" doesn't make it any different. I have used all kinds of Apple products over the years. I will never understand the price premium people pay for their iStuff. iSheep.

Very interested tbh. It needs 2 lightning ports and/or spdif out to make it perfect.

$100 for a stylus that costs them at most $2 including all possible costs. I called it like 5 years ago. And by "I called it like 5 years ago", I mean everyone called it the moment Apple started this BS an eternity ago.
