What I'm wondering is who the hell buys Beats at full price? I'd only buy them at a fraction of the cost, that's the only way they're comparable. IIRC the earbuds I got were $200 at the time, I got them from $40 from my local computer shop (NCIX) who sold used ones packaged as new. I exchanged it thinking I got a new pair but that one turned out to be used too. So next I directly did an RMA with Monster. They contacted NCIX (which was an official reseller of Monster products) and some manager got upset and called me rather pissed off asking why I would report them to Monster. I basically told him his shop screwed up so I had to RMA it directly and I ended up having to pay for shipping to Monster. The manager then offered to reimburse me for the shipping and he did. NCIX blamed Monster, Monster blamed NCIX. The end. TL;DR - Monster/Beats prodcuts suck unless you can get them at 1/5th the retail price and even then legit resellers will sometimes sell used ones. NCIX also sucks.

Full price? HTC knew Beats' price (well, 51% of the price) back then: $300-ish million.

Heh...for $200, getting a similarly priced Shure, Etymotic, or Ultimate Ears will drown the Beats down the deepest river. If there's a $200 Skullcandy buds I'm pretty sure it'll beat Beats as well. :P

You guys know that Beats audio make the highest quality and best sounding equipment ever made right?

Beats succeeds by luring ignorant listeners & buyers aka fantastic marketing. Otherwise they are mediocre at best in a narrow range of genres, and outclassed by cheaper or similarly priced headphones. The best part is many people listen to streaming and/or low quality mp3s wearing expensive headphones. If the source is already bad, no amount of money is going to make it sound better. Furthermore, most listeners do NOT use amps which are typically required to power the large drivers found in these headsets.

Not to mention audiotechnica or sennheiser stuff. I really cannot comprehend how such a terrible brand of headsets that have dogturdspunkgargle reproduction by ANY TEST manage to get overvalued so much. I guess, in a way, it's a match made in heaven; Overpriced, over-marketed garbage-hardware company buying another overpriced, over-marketed garbage-hardware company. Makes perfect sense, now.

Beats was acquired for their music streaming service (which is admittedly very good), NOT their craptastic headphones.

Ha-hah, yeah, no. If Cook wants just the streaming service, he'd just go for Beats Music, leaving out Beats Electronics. He acquired both mainly because of the fame being associated to the Beats brand, specifically Beats Electronics. Also, that made Apple being able to also sell Beats headphones through their stores. If Jobs is still around, he'd immediately throw any negotiation to the bin if Beats Electronics is included. As much as Apple is considered as peddlers of overpriced things, most of the time the quality is there, as in the hardware (and software) relatively speaks for itself. Beats Electronics...not so much. There's a reason most, if not all, of their stuff don't have the really important info printed on the box, like impedance and SNR. They thrive on oblivious people.
