We just need more cores. Im tired of Intel 4/4 or 4/8, this Zen 8/16 finally interests me. Even a Haswell IPC would be nice.

Come on October....... Been holding out against turning blue ......... Still getting enough out of my FX8350 but due to upgrade about this time anyway. It will be good to have competition in the market.

Intel have some nice 6 core to 10 core cpu but its so expansive.because no one his competitor right now.Means wtf 1500$ 8 core cpu?this is clearly a overprice.

Hello. My first comment in the forum. I'm waiting for this cpu to upgrade my system. 8 cores, 16 threads, 95W TDP at stock, very low power consumption at idle, probably unlocked for overclock, 40% IPC faster than the last FX series, available for around 200€ after a couple of months from the launch. You can use your old AM3+ cpu cooler on the AM4 socket (with inexpensive adapters in some cases). And the AM4 socket will be used by both Zen and APU cpus (and probably by the Zen+ series). The 95W TDP allows a good overclock margin, with no need for custom water cooling. Air cooling will be fine for a 4-4.5GHz overclock. There are all the premises for a success. If all these specs will be confirmed will be a terrific cpu. I don't think Intel can offer something similar for the same price. You would need to pay at least 1000€ to bring home a modern cpu with 16 threads, and the Intel solution would consume way more power (6900K has a 140W TDP).
Hmm I also want a good cheap 8 core cpu but what if AMD 8 or 10 core cpu cant even compete with intel 6700k?whether its 100$ cheap from 6700k if it dont compete with 6700K then i am not interested.Because donkey's doesnt run in horse race. And about watts Amd always takes more watts and heat than Intel.please correct your stats.

Cant AMD just copy paste Intel architecture? Why he taking beats from last 5-6 years.I dont this think copy architecture is patent issue.

What I have to correct? The 6900K I've mentioned has 140W TDP, while Zen 95W, with same core/thread count. Even pushing the frequency with overclocking the AMD will keep consuming way less than 140W, while overclocking the 6900k you'll consume more. As for the performance, one has to consider the full package when buying a cpu. The 6700k you've mentioned would stay behind in multithreading.

I read even a Kaby Lake i7 7700? will be 4/8 while i5's probably 4/4 again. Hopefully Zen will be competitive and force Intel to change its ways. Im not building a overpriced X99 just to have an 6 core.

Yay something to get excited about again in computer tech. I'll probably wait till both camps refresh their cpu lines befor I need to upgrade only running my 3770k at 4ghz atm it's more than enuff.

Yeah. I've been wanting to upgrade for a few months now but I'm waiting for both refreshes. Kaby looks like it's going to be the norm for Intel -- Optane is the only interesting part. Zen is exciting. If AMD can put out a true 8 core processor that's even close to Intel, I'll just go with Zen. Getting tired of Intel's reign over the market -- they've been phoning it in with their desktop chips for years now.

I have similar idea to yours really on cpu parts.

i really wish AMD will come trough with ZEN - becoming relevant again- hope it will bring competition back to the CPU market like the old days 🤓 I'm sure all of us users will benefit 🙂 after all customers loyalty should be in performance to the $

RE the clockspeeds, AMD's claim was actually that Zen will have 40% higher IPC than Excavator. Unfortunately that still doesn't put AMD in a great situation. This compares a 3.8Ghz boosted Haswell CPU with a 3.8Ghz boosted Excavator CPU, and includes three single threaded benchmarks: http://www.anandtech.com/bench/product/1684?vs=837 The Haswell is 73%, 72% and 56% faster across the three single threaded benchmarks. So for those tests at least a 40% IPC gain will still see Zen a long way back on IPC vs a now 3 year old Intel architecture. I really, really hope Zen impresses, and the proper 8 core/16 thread CPUs at (presumably) sane prices will be big plus for team red, but I'm still nervous that poor single threaded performance will once again hurt the case for AMD CPUs.

Yup, really looking forward to this release ! Something with an improved IPC over my ageing Xeon x5680 for a fair price will even be enough for me, the extra 2 cores will be a nice bonus too ^^ Partly what appeals to me is the low power idle, going to save me a lot of money over the many years I am sure I will own this new platform 🙂 I've been waiting a Long time for another Great thing from AMD's CPU division...

That octa core CPU seems so tasty i want one... Any word on a possible release date? My system is ancient and i really want to build a new one but i´ve been holding on for Zen but i don´t how mych longer i can wait!... If they managed to release Zen in Autumn it would be great!

I hear that. The last few years have been hardly been exciting for CPU power increases.

We are still waiting for the next Sandy Bridge. :P

My i7-920 from 2008 is starting to show its age in open world games. I'm so damn lucky I bought it used, and then OC'd it... So much value for a $300 PC with 12GB of RAM. ...However, as I said it is starting to disappoint in the open world, and I'd consider a new Zen core. My last AMD gaming CPU was from the turn of the century: back when I was playing Quake and Counter-Strike.

@rhysiam more "recent" information from AMD slides earlier this year indicated that the IPC would be Greater than the 40% they had mentioned before:
"Zen" -based CPU development is on track to achieve greater than 40% IPC uplift from our previous generation
It certainly sounded encouraging early this to hear AMD were lifting expectations higher than planned. Well, now that ES's are out in the wild, it won't be long until early benchmarks start leaking out

Zen is next gen process with come next year in 2017.And u competing that with intel's 2016 cpu?you should compete ZEN with next coming intel cpu.And how u can say 6700k will stay behind?you already got the AMD zen cpu and done benchmarks?Dont be arrogant.I know you desperatly want AMD win then wait for its release.Dont make blind guess.

I dont understand one thing that why CPU speed has been stuck between 2.5ghz to max 4.00ghz.So much next gen, revolution Ghz still the same from Pentium 4 era.In other hand in GPU we got 2k clock speed and other things and its increasing with every new gen cards. Why we havent got 5,6 or 7ghz cpu yet.Isn't this possible?
