AMD's marketing department has fairly recently screwed up with the bringing back of the FX brand. Giving me false hopes of something legendary to return. Hope this is NOT the case this time around.

ATI Rage!

Volcanic Islands, Krakatoa, Fiji, Fukushima, Hiroshima... It finally dawned on them that setting themselves up for another round of African village electricity jokes is not the best way to kickstart new GPU http://abload.de/img/23_13_22hvkii.gif

After the anouncement that all the 300 series would be rebrands i figured they would do a funny naming scheam like titan hopefully its not a joke like titan as well.

I hope a Titan-like naming scheme won't cause them to use Titan-like overpricing...

Voodoo 3 days were Good. Cept not having enough memory to load the textures for Tribes 2 ATi Rage 128 was dead to me, only spent a few days in a PC, rest of its life in a box before the bin. The thing never felt good to me.
You know, some of us actually had those. I had VooDoo 3 2000 16MB, and I happen to be using AIW 128 Pro some time later. Cousin had Xpert card of that generation. And then I got TNT2 32MB m64. That loony boy from Mars up the page apparently forgot to mention he paired his ATi card with 386. Because while ATi Rage 128 was just quite a bit weaker, it was not delivering 10fps at games of that time. And was soon replace by Rage Pro 128. One thing which was apparent at that time was IQ. Voodoo 3/TNT2 produced textures which would remind you of whore's face in rain. Makeup melted all over, nothing sharp. That's where ATi/Matrox were clear winners back then. I played mostly 800x600/1024x768 and at that ATi delivered better Image quality per frame rate. But Hey, I had to learn hard way with those 3Dfx/nVidia GPUs. There is no question that TNT2 lasted me with its 32MB a long time, since it had bit higher performance and it made me used to poor IQ. With it, it hardly mattered if 3D scene was rendered 640x480 or 1024x768, textures made everything blurry in same way. Here is some comparison: http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/ati-rage-fury-pro-review,133-6.html

I would not expect 290x price for a card that competes with a titan x, my guess is it would sit in between 980 ti price and titan x price. $800ish imo.

Why has no one picked up on this yet: "monitor connectivity is HDMI and DP, no more DVI" NO MORE DVI ????? Also doesn't HDMI cause lag? I cannot understand why they are going DP only as HDMI is still valid for 99% of gamers. How many people have a DP monitor? I know I don't. Which means a new monitor if i want to upgrade to the fastest AMD card. How much money is that going to cost?

you was sure this was not the dual Rage processors core, the first ever cards gpu's with dual gpu's never made.
Nah, doing some research I think it was an ATI Rage pro I had in my Time PC, whilst my mate got one with an Athlon 600Mhz and a TNT2 which ran anything like a boss. I was deeply gutted as a teenager 🙁.

I like the name. My first graphics card was the Ati Rage Fury 32mb version. The card looks good except I wouldn't like the removal of the DVI connection. If I use HDMI I have to then plug my speakers into the back of my monitor and they just don't sound as good compared to having them plugged directly into the sound card output on the PC. The picture isn't any better on HDMI either.

@Dch48 I find I can enable (in Volume Control Options, check both output devices) both HDMI and my Sound Blaster XFi Gamer card at the same time. No sync issues.

I've never heard of HDMI causing lag. Are you referring to older HDMI standards not being able to support 60fps at 4K? If you're referring to input lag, I've never heard of there being notable input lag differences between input methods with most of it coming from the monitor's scaler. As for DP, every monitor I've had in an eternity has had it. I was going to say the last 5 years but it's probably been since 2008.

Have you been living under a rock for the past 5 years? It has been widely known that DVI and vga are being phased out.

You'll only need a DP to DVI adapter, or go Nvidia, as they still have DVI.

DVI is old technology and it needs to be phased out. I have used HDMI for a good while and no input lag unless you try running stuff that was not made for it. There is quite a few people that have a DP monitors because there are monitors that come with HDMI and DP on it. Also DP is the new DVI because it being able to support 120 and 144hz. I think that HDMI can support 120 and 144hz at any resolution under 4k until HDMI 2.0 was released. So pretty much HDMI and DP can do the same thing as DVI.

HDMI 1.1 or whatever it was is rampant still and doesn't support 120Hz + Plus there's been that bug ages with Nvidia drivers and RGB color range. DP is okay I guess but it has little reason to exist. Saying DVI is "old technology" is kind of funny. It's a digital signal interface. If anything, the only reason it's being phased out is for new content protection standards or some other nonsense.

From my understanding hdmi and dp are royality free. so a my guess would be that's one of the reasons dvi is being phased out. Not having to pay for that anymore is going to save a lot.
