This is one thing AMD should NEVER EVER back down on. It brings so much goodwill from consumers, and more money for AMD as people stop thinking of moving platforms to Intel. I did go from an X370 to an X570 mobo during AM4 lifetime. But my friend still rocks his X370 AM4 and has gone from a Ryzen 1700X to a 3700X, and just now a few weeks ago to a 5800X3D. He is more than happy and pretty much content with his build now for another 2-3 years when he will probably jump onto a new platform.

I've just moved to AM5 (7800X3D) so its great to hear, I just hope the long boot time of 'some' AM5 systems will be reduced with UEFI updates 😛

Good will in exchange for platform stability issues.

You ALWAYS have to undermine anything AMD related, do you? Even me - as a newbie reader, its getting ridiculous, really.

Threadripper users would like to have a word with you about that.

Nobody ever talks about how, if we'd look at it from a company, and engineering stand point, it wouldn't even make sense to do anything but what is announced in the OP. They did never plan to introduce a new socket anyway, they just did. Literally. This is not a good will move, it's simply naming something they did anyway "pro consumer" to (smartly) generate good will out of clever marketing. Nothing more.

why wouldn't you as a corporation try to remind your current consumer base that "you got their backs" and relay to them that they dont need to move platforms in the near future? Its good marketing, that generates buzz for your company, reminds your customers they are supported for the future, and gives new potential customers a reason to chose your platform. How is this a bad thing?

Because it's mainly marketing. And I specifically despise marketing for it's purpose to guide your attention towards something and usually away from something they don't want you to see, like a magician playing their illusions on those targeted by said marketing.

What do they want us to look away from in this case?

I'm asking myself the question: Did they only announce a two generation cycle with AM4, or did they announce an thus market a longer time to keep the socket?

Same here, I've used four different AM4 CPUs. Glad to hop on the AM5 bandwagon.

Hell I'm not done with AM4 yet and I see no reason to upgrade my 5600X anytime in the near future. This will be the longest lasting motherboard I've ever used.

Only option on am4 for more gaming performance from 5600x is the legendary 5800x3d.

True, there's another few more years. I've said it before and I'll say it again, AM4 is the gift that keeps on giving.

Also, I'm not bothered with 5950X for workstation use - it can still deliver - AM4 was/is a very successful well made platform.

Does anyone still remember the days where Intel was releasing Pentium Overdrive CPUs that you could use on a 486 mainboard?

Simpler days when the imc and pcie controller weren't in the cpu.
