Why do you think that is? We can thank AMD for thinking of the customer. Look at intel's upcoming LGA 1700 socket or many before where they lost cooler compatibility.

Why should we thank AMD or Intel for providing us this cooler combability. This is what they should do anyway...

this is very good news and not just for gamers. there is an entire ecosystem of peripheral products just based on the socket design. there are dozens of companies (at minimum) this affects. AMD has long kept a holistic approach to design that includes the consumer, which is far more than Intel can say. they screw their clients all of the time with chipset and socket changes

Because it is more work to keep compatibility then just dropping every single socket, every 1-2 years. I have a nice AM2 cooler from 2009 I can throw on my newly bought 5600g, it has been on a AM3 and AM4 during the years.

My dear friend, I think we all agree that it takes more work and effort to keep compatibility between socket changes. Especially from PGA to LGA. What I'm trying to say is, this shouldn't be shown or presented as an extra gift to consumers...

Let me write it differently: To this day, a 15 year cooler compatibility has never happened before, even more surprising when considering that the performance difference is 10-30 times faster now, then when the mounting system was invented. I would call that a gift to me atleast. A Intel machine would have needed something like 5 different mounting brackets, to reach the same compatibility. The socket LGA2011 and V3 version of it has different hights, so the cooler pressure on the CPU is different between LGA2011 and LGA2011-V3 and the Xeon line LGA2011 has 2 different mounting hole locations, each needing there own version of the cooler mounting hardware.

Because even with where the mounting holes maybe on the motherboard for the new socket the retention location probably is going to be the same.

In other news I just received my free AM4 upgrade kit for my ~decade old NH-C14, thanks Noctua! Now that cooler might last me all through AM5 as well. 🙂
