Still eyeing down that 1600 if it drops in price I may have to upgrade sooner than I wanted to. Sarsar make sure u have the latest bios alot of people are getting 3200mhz ram now

They cut the prices because their IPC is still low and with the memory issues it's a mess. šŸ™ I have the R7 1700 with 8 gb ram at 2660 Mhz (@ 1.43v while on Intel it was at 1.2v WTF) and of course i cannot reach 2660 Mhz with two sticks because it's not stable. I had a system for my brother with a i3 and i upgraded to a i5 6500 with the other 8 gb ram @2133 Mhz left from the Ryzen system and i noticed that he has the same (or better) performance in compressing (7zip) a mp4 file! WFT why? 8 cores with 15 threads (i left one free but when i get home i will try with all 16) is slower or equal to 4 core and 4 threads! I gave him a 1.28 Gb mp4 and he did it in 46 seconds, i can't wait to get home to test it on thr Ryzen with 16 theads. @BLEH!: wait for reviews for threadripper first.
Did you try that memory with AGESA 1006 update? I believe at 2660 memory should be at 1.35V, 1.2 is out of spec. Also, you seem not to remember pains Intel had with x99 and memory where it took more than a year to get higher clocks. Ryzen is here for 3 months and some memory kits can already reach 4GHz. As for encoding speed that really depends on the tool you use, if it's not optimized for more cores and is optimized for Intel, it will be faster on Intel CPUs.

IĀ“ve just looked up and Ryzen as also dropped here in Portugal. The question is if this is a normal price adjustment or if this is because Ryzen isnĀ“t selling as good as AMD wanted. I hope itĀ“s the first.

The ram is Corsair @ 2400 Mhz, on the older i5 6600k with Asus Z170 it was working @ 2666 Mhz with 1.2v without any issues. The Agesa 1.006 came out today for my motherboard (beta bios). I will flash it tonight. I was using winrar but all the reviews tested compression with 7zip and Ryzen was far ahead of the i7 7700k so i use 7zip now but i cannot see a big difference between Ryzen and Skylake. Between winrar and 7zip yes, 7zip is much faster.
I have the 1700 stock clock and mobo thats a msi b350 tomahawk i flashed the newest beta bios and i got my ram to 3200 @ 1.35v timings at 16-18-18-18-36 i can drop it to 2933 at 14-16-16-16-36,the ram i have is CORSAIR Vengeance LPX 16GB (2 x 8GB) 288-Pin DDR4 SDRAM DDR4 2133 (PC4 17000) Desktop Memory Model CMK16GX4M2A2133C13,i got it when it first came out so my ram was stuck at 2666 every bios but the new beta bios shocked me when i started testing the ram higher.

Yep they took the money for a bit on their 8 cores while the prepared their HEDT platform. The lowest priced Threadripper will be $499 (I said a month or so ago that they needed to lower the R7 prices because the first Threadripper needed to come in at $499).

The X399 mobos will be significantly more expensive than the X370 ones, I'd say, meaning the price of the CPU alone is only a part of the story. But of course it would look dubious if 1800X was more expensive than the cheapest Threadripper, even if nobody could build the whole Threadripped machine for a lower price.

Just the number of pins and traces going out of the socket and the number of PCIe lanes supported should make them more expensive. The CPUs are more than likely to offset the price though.

Waiting for Threadripper depends on your budget, it will surely be more than $499. Either 1700/x or 2nd hand X99 would be good buys in my opinion.

I had a record of some of the cheapest shops from a month ago and I see no drop. What I see is more availability from online shops from you can order directly to your home. Physical shops have the same prices.
Though we all do know what this usually means.
Either fanboys keep buying 7700K because MORE FPS IS BETTER or making room for threadriper.

Emm... plz keep in mind this. Don't judge any piece of hardware out of a single bench/task. And, 7ziping an mp4 file is a really bad example. An mp4 can't be further compressed much and the software seems to be good enough to do less work on blocks of data it can't compress. Point here is, CPU utilization doesn't reach 100% so it ends up being more of a hdd bench.

I would argue things aren't going as well as they had hoped. AMD's stocks aren't that great and the release-date reviews expressed a lot of disappointment. I think AMD is doing whatever they can to just get their numbers up. As long as they keep getting their name out there and get people satisfied, their future sales will improve. A lower price will help improve someone's perspective of a product. People are more willing to forgive inferiority when it oozes with value.

It will take more than 3 months for the market to show increased confidence in AMD. They are arrow pointing up though. All the new OEM deals are a sign of that.
