Yes, and decent DDR5 isnt cheap either. 5800X3D is £350 right now, even if somebody sold their AM4 system and went for an R9 7900 they are paying much more for the AM5 MOBO/RAM for little if any bump in performance. I would suggest either sticking with a 5800X3D system and using the cash to jump a GPU level or hang on for the 7***X3D series, if you are going to throw cash at AM5 then at least see a noticeable (hopefully) just in performance.
Just wait a couple of months, when the 7800x3d releases the price of the 5800x3d will fall, and you will also be able to buy a used one

I could afford a 7800 X3D and an AM5 set up but with having a 5800X3D i feel it's too early to let go of this system yet. These chips might not be the best for gaming but there still better than most. If you're 100% into gaming then i'd still say go for AM4 and get the 5800X3D because this chip still has years of performance left, i have no doubt about that. I'd even go as far as 4 years from release so that would be whatever comes after 7XXX series. 8XXX series will be two years away and i'm sure still on AM5. 5800 X3D isn't cheap but the ram and motherboard can be had for very little money compared to AM5. You don't need an expensive mobo or ram to get the best out of a 5800X3D as long as the vrm is half decent you'll be fine.
I have a buddy running a 5800x3d on a $89 B350 board with $80 16GB 3000 from 2018. Upgraded from a R5 1400. That is what I call a damn upgrade path. His does 4250 -30pbo with 212 EVO and avgs 68c.

Exactly what i was saying although i'd say go for a B550 and a cheap 3600mhz DDR4 low latency set of ram, both can be had for around $100 each.

Hilbert, why still on rtx3090?. For CPU testing we need 4090....

5800X3D is £350, the AM5 RAM kit and MOBO is how much if you want decent OCing. And that 65W is an AMD 65W, they have been making up the power draw on their CPUs for years.
Tell me about it. I used to buy ASUS Hero MB for under $300, like $200-$250 max. Now they are $400-$600. Only way that's worth it is you have a golden sample CPU.

Yup, last board from Asus that was good and didn't rape you is my Asus CHVII 470x I paid $250 for it at Amazon. I should say the 470x chipset in general period, then came 570's and the prices jumped and continued up too now.

Ive just picked up a Gigabyte B550 AORUS ELITE AX V2 for £140 for a cheap build for my son. Its going with some spares i have like 3800X, 32GB 3200 and water loop, il house it in a LanLi Lancool 3 and put my old 6900XT in once my 4090 arrives. 1TB and 2TB NVME drives for the OS/Progs and Games. The only thing i need to buy now is a PSU.

I see now that the dust has settled that if you enable PBO on these CPU's they go like the X. So a big $aving then compared to the X. So dont buy the 7900X get the 7900 and enable PBO. Thats of course if you need this kind of CPU.

I mentioned this earlier, the X is looking superfluous now we have the non-x and the X3D

Sorry I missed that but. I was referring to productivity and not games.

yeah but im sure on GN they mentioned via PBO the non x is pretty much at the same level productivity wise.

I think the non X versions are basically the same chips as the X versions , but downclocked... And with a cooler included.

AMD used to ship CPUs with half decent coolers, not sure how well these will work though.

I think that they are adequate for this parts but in my case i already have my Noctua cooler ready.
