Hopefully you get a sample one to test. if I find one not insanely overpriced, I may upgrade my 5600x to a 5800x3d.

I'm 100% getting one as i've already ploughed into AM4 heavily as it is. I got lucky and got a golden sample 5800X so the 3d version has to be worth it but a 10% increase in frame rates is enough for me to upgrade. I can also use that Aorus Master X570S board i bought but never fitted as it's sitting here waiting for my lazy arse to install. You all know how much a PITA it is to strip a fully built PC down to it's bare bones but i will if i manage to get hold of this new chip.

Im on the fence with this one, it all depends on the benchmarks in gaming and the loaded thermals.

I agree but some rumours say that it will give a decent bump in gaming performance over the 5800X and if that's true then it'll be worth it for me. If not i will just look at getting a 5900X or even a 5950X that i wanted to begin with but couldn't get at the time of my build. I built the best PC available for a reason and that reason was hopefully in 5 years from now this thing is still viable gaming system. So hopefully my next PC upgrade will be in 2026 or 2027.... :0

A 5800X3D might just be the perfect upgrade for my 3700X. But the price is going to be steep. Since I'm stuck with a 2070S, I'm in no hurry to upgrade my CPU. So maybe by the time Zen4 releases, these 5800X3D might be more affordable. It seems AMD is trying to push it against the 12900K. So it's probable the price will be around 500-600 euros. https://videocardz.com/ezoimgfmt/cdn.videocardz.com/1/2022/01/AMD-Ryzen-7-5800X3D-2-768x430.jpg?ezimgfmt=ng:webp/ngcb1

The 5800x had and still has an msrp of 499 while the CPU nowdays can be found close to 350 and always bellow 400...as far I am aware there was never an actual msrp reduction. I think the most optimistic prediction would be the 5800x3d comes out at 499msrp and they reduce the msrp of the plain 5800x ... They might go full greed and price it close to the 5900 with the excuse that one is for gaming and the other for multitasking . Anyway thoseare my thoughts we will see when it comes out.

I may pick one up and shift my 3900X over to my Unraid box so I can run some extra VMs and Docker instances down the line. It's a good CPU, but I just don't fully utilize 12 cores on my desktop enough.

I find the existence of this CPU causes a question to be asked. If you are looking for an upgrade, do you get a 5800X3D or a 5900X with more cores?

That's a simple answer: How much do you need the extra cores? If you aren't a heavy multitasker, the 5800X3D makes a lot more sense. Most highly parallelized tasks are moving to GPUs these days. Games are very slowly starting to use more threads but I still don't see games needing 16 threads for several years. That doesn't mean games won't take advantage of that many, but they will still be perfectly playable with fewer. For highly-parallel CPU-bound workloads, you'll just have to wait for benchmarks to see which they prefer.

If you're a gamer: 5800X3D. If you need allot of work done: 5900X That said, see reviews before buying.

I might upgrade if they ever make a 5900 or 5950X version, it's just not enough of a leap from my current 5800X

Someone please recommend a good MB that can OC the memory DDR4 up to 4000 1:1 so I can be ready to buy one IF it can be found here. If not, I'm just gonna go ADL F series with blck B660 MB option.

I wonder how bad this thing would work on a Wraith Prism. I don't really want to upgrade my cooler at the moment but I wouldn't mind having more horsepower to drive my 3090.

It will be close to the 5800X. The extra cache won't increase power consumption and heat, by a significant margin.

2700x -> 5800x3d could be a decent change worth considering for me. Admitted it fits and run well on a x470 from asus

i have a 5950x in my work 'puter and a 5800x (vanilla) on my gaming rig. if the cost is under $500 i will raid my gpu piggybank (for 5950 system) as i can wait on the work system to get EOL gpu when next gen comes out. that said...this is an entirely new fabrication process so that, not greed will be the driver of prices.

Do you guys have some information site to find the center distances(?) of cpus monting-holes ? To check if my cooling is compatible. I'm on LGA 2066 Edit: it looks okay
