Wait for BIOS and Windows updates
Wait for higher clocked Quad Core models, i think if Quad Core and Quad Core SMT models gets "XFR" Turbo between 4.20 and 4.50GHz we will have i5 7600K / i7 7700K Performance @half price

The 1700x reviews aren't helping. AMD stock keeps tanking. Yesterday prior to embargo lift, stock was at 14.96. It immediately dropped 3% and is now down 15% since launch to 13.26 (as of 9:40 EST). Intel is up slightly. NASDAQ is up slightly.
That's not what we want folks.

Thanks for great review. I want to buy 1700 or 1700x, but would like to wait for detailed motherboards tests.

Hilbert did you try using windows' high performance plan and/or core parking disabled?
They got much better results on tom's hardware just by using high-performance for windows.
Phoronix got better results too by using the performance governor instead of ondemand on linux

Another great view HH! Thank you and get well!
Still going 1700/1700x. Just deciding best mobo. Maybe Gigabyte.

Maybe just a claim... but it looks like Nvidia drivers for 1080 were optimized for Intel architecture. It's strange Ryzen CPUs shine in particular in NON-GPU applications...
Would have been of much interest a test on an AMD GPU (and AMD drivers) too.

Thanks again H for another great review ,enjoyed reading 🙂 G/W soon 🙂
Good too see SMT off testing .
Was windows power plan ,set to high performance during testing as i think i might of read yesterday somewhere that this does indeed help .

Now I'm looking forward to the 1600X as well. I'm very curious to see how it unfolds. I'm actually kind of amazed by the 1700 itself. AMD was able to get a 70 watt performing cpu on 8 cores. Once the BIOs and other new architecture issues are worked out, I think AMD could do well here.

In your overclock conculusion you have.
Our ease of overclocking tip: in our findings the more widespread, stable and acceptable overclock is 4.1 GHz on all 8 cores with voltage set to auto. This does apply to the ASUS HERO motherboard we used. That number seems to be the sweet spot that I'd like to recommend to you. Overclocking however always varies per system, PC, ASIC quality, cooling and sure... a bit of luck as well.
Should this not be 4.0 GHz? Looks like you forgot to change the value from your 1800x review here.

Get well soon Hilbert. Great review as always , awesome to see finally AMD back in the game and performing extremely well , and all of this do benefit all of us as it will force Intel to lower the exorbitant prices on the 8 cores and 10 cores cpus.
Hilbert if you have time and if possible , can you do a quick test overclocking the bus / changing straps / bclock adjustment and with fixed voltage ?
Thank you and i hope you recover quick from the flu Boss , drink a lot of natural orange juice and lots of vitamin C + lots of water and rest.

Great review, as always. This is pretty much a 1800x but a £100 cheaper. So next to the 1800x, it looks good. The 1700 will be further £70 cheaper and do exactly the same.
So that will most definitely be the cpu to go for. I'm underwhelmed.
