I assume the 3500 won't have SMT? Because it doesn't make sense why they'd release 3 different 6c/12t CPUs with unlocked multipliers. Unlike Intel, AMD isn't dominating the OEM market, so I can't imagine that's the market they're targeting. I'm guessing this would be another $50 cheaper over the 3600, which is already the more obvious choice over the 3600X in most cases. So, if this is 6c/12t, most of the people who would buy this are basically just saving themselves ~$100 over the 3600X for similar OC results. Of course, not everyone will OC, but I guess my point is custom PC builders are the most likely to get this CPU and many will probably pick this over the higher-end models, so AMD is basically just limiting their income. But, without SMT, I think this would be a more interesting product.

These CPU's will have SMT and are mostly the same as their non pro counterparts. Pro models in the past where available much longer and where basically non consumer versions meant for OEM's and enterprise solutions. It could have functions just like Intels Vpro (remote management, longer warranty etc).

I was talking about the 3500, not the Pro models. I would expect the 3600 Pro to have 6c/12t.

Ah my bad. The pro models will probably have a bit higher margin compared to the non Pro's because increased warranty and they have to keep production going on for longer.

It would be more sense to make a 4c/8t 3500 and price at 100$ range.

Kinda obvious, but it bears reiterating (an oddly tautological word) that binning is a big part of amd strategy. ~nothing goes to waste, but all pay fair value for lower bins. Their sku/price list is a juggling act to balance supply and demand for the various bin levels. e.g. huge demand for epyc chips is no good w/o corresponding good sales of 3600 e.g. to use the inevitable lower binned CCXs. point being, they dont HAVE to gimp smt to differentiate, but no doubt they will 🙂

well manual OC seems to be dead with zen 2, 3600x just includes a better cooler which allows it to perform marginally better, so im guessing the 3500 will have an even worse cooler its funny how AMD came to the rescue with cheap unlocked CPUs, but now made it a moot point considering they all behave the same leaving almost 0 headroom for manual overclocking, so if you already have a good cooling solution, you get the cheapest model ignoring whatever advertised clocks they have, and it will run the same as the top end model i very much prefer things to go this way rather than what scummy intel did after sandy
