even old cards like 290 to 390X are hard to find. They are all in miners. And quite ironically I want to buy a few to build my own ETHminer. Should be a few months to a year before PoS takes over.

Even when you find them they aren't cheap. Was looking to pick up another 480, but Newegg has them prices well above their retail price or they don't have them at all.

Ethereum is what GPU miners are mining, basically mine Ethereum then trade to BTC.

Huh well what do you know, just checked some of the digital stores I tend to use and yeah most of them are indeed unavailable waiting for more to be delivered by the manufacturer. Only the Sapphire 580 Nitro+ 4GB model seem to have any availability at all. (Some dozen GPU's in stock but that's probably changing soon too.) EDIT: So is that good for AMD? It's selling out after all. Of course for resales that's driving prices up and availability is currently limited, doesn't look good for Vega when that's getting released does it? (Though it seems availability for that might already be pretty limited for other reasons.)

I have 4 RX 570's pre-ordered for ether mining rig, e-tailor says expect stock at end of the month.

Not only that , the damn things are being actually sold @ 1080 prices, these miners are insane

Nice that they are getting the revenue, but I would think they would rather some of these cards going to gamers etc... The mining can be flighty and the higher prices will push average buyers to Nvidia instead.

This cant be bad for AMD. Gamers or miners makes no difference, selling all your cards in stock is a good thing. I just hope prices wont be rising to much due all of this. Some of us still need to upgrade.

I checked Litecoin recently, and it has shot up to $22, from stagnating at or around $10 for ever. Not surprised the cards are selling well. Good for AMD i suppose, a sale is a sale. Aren't there some Cryptocoin currencies that are ASIC adverse, due to their nature or build ?

I bought a MSI RX 580 a couple of months ago. I'm now wondering if I should sell it for a profit, or if I should do some ether mining myself? I currently use it for grid computing on an OpenCL project. *EDIT* AMD stock is up 5% this morning. I guess investors are stoked.

I thought this wouldn't apply to my remote home country, but when I checked my usual store's web site yesterday, it was all red for 570/580s. That's pretty crazy. You could still get the dusty old 390 and Fury, but the prices are weirdly high, as if they had no worries of getting rid of their aging inventory.

This is actually kind of bad news for AMD. GPUs like these are (were) good values for 1080p gamers. Right now the gaming market is saturated with Nvidia. People tend to buy the most common and familiar name. For those who were seeking something like a 580, they have no choice but to either get an older crappier GPU or go for Nvidia, which is only increasing their gaming marketshare. It's great AMD is getting the revenue and demand, but in the long run this could be hurting them. I can see why that spokesperson said gamers are their top priority. Phoronix did an article on Ethereum yesterday and 560 is actually the best all-around miner. Since GPGPU tasks don't tend to need much bandwidth, you'd think miners would be getting boards with 7 PCIe slots and just get a bunch of 560s.

And because of this BS I'm caught without a GPU for almost 2 weeks now. Thank you, f*cking "farmvile" farmers.

Here we go again. People are trying to get $400 for a used 480 8GB on Craigslist. People.are selling gtx 1070s for $325 locally. Its not good for people in the 2nd hand market for AMD.

(Rumour) AMD and Nvidia are to re-launch their Polaris and 1060s for a 3rd time for miners.

Once the boom is done, the market will be flooded with extremely cheap used cards. It's ok for them for now, but it gets worse.

I'm still kind of interested how they are going to do that. The rumor is that they won't have display out, so they'll be slightly cheaper and miners will go for them - but the nice part about buying consumer cards is that you can turn around and sell them when the coin market crashes. You won't be able to do that with displayless cards. Unless they plan on doing some kind of buyback thing, idk.

It also pushes the more loyal customers, gamers, to Nvidia. There has been a pretty large influx of posts on /r/nvidia of people complaining about not being able to buy RX580's or that the prices are too high and buying Nvidia instead. I don't know if either issue negates the massive volume of miner sales though.

Why would that be a problem? Isn't it objectively worse if AMD never sold these GPUs new in the first place? By the time these cards are sold used, they're not going to be good enough to steal sales away from any new GPUs. Keep in mind - there are better GPUs out there already, but despite this, people are still buying these. Even the 560s are getting sold-out.

I regret that I didn't continue mining back in 2010 when I start messing with pool and settings and stuff. :bang:
