Faster Navi cards are coming there is no reason for R7 to be around. Still, this even beats nvidia gpu lifetime records. šŸ˜€

Doesn't surprise me, kind of seemed like a product designed to salvage some instinct cards. It's still based on Vega architecture and AMD will continue to support that with drivers, so I don't see the big deal really.

Let's hear it directly from AMD. More to it, let's see what the drivers update offers

Exactly my thinking at the card's release. I don't see that much of an issue, or surprise here either.

That's some longevity for an video card. As much as I like AMD, that's a faux-pas in my book. Will keep this in mind, AMD. Not a fan of planned obsolescence, and this move gave me pause.

It filled a gap until Navi. Still not a bad prosumer card.

They did say it was a stop gap for Navi drivers wise it's the same as the Fury so although they are end of life to buy, support for them will still continue.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Not much different then the GTX 2060 lifetime, that is obsolete now too. I am sure the VII will be more missed for its computational abilities then the GTX2060 for its Raytracing abilities.

Feel sorry for all those content creators and gamers who bought the card thinking they would have driver/manufacturer support for a couple of years.

AMD still supports the 290X, 6 years after.......

end of production with end of support with drivers are 2 vastly different things , the Card will stop seeing support with new drivers pretty much when amd move GCN to legacy status

How would those work, when the 5700 XT is already exceeding thermals? Factory liquid cooling again?

Considering how fast they moved TraScale to legacy after GCN came out Iā€™d be careful.

They are having issues with the stock coolers. Any AIB cooler currently used will cool these just fine. The power consumption is not high on Navi out of the box so the stock coolers are vastly under performing.

I'm pretty sure GCN is sticking around though? They made it sound like they are going to be developing GCN concurrently with RDNA.

It more than likely was.

You mean there's going to be actually new, not just rebranded, GCN? ......ugh

pfft, this card was a curiosity to most people, nothing more, being loud, noisy, hot, expensive, underwhelming performance for the price. I remember reading that it could have some niche uses in a professional environment, but as a gaming card it was never gonna be successful. An atrocious first stab at 7nm, goodbye Radeon VII!

nothing to worry about, they will almost certainly be exclusively compute cards for servers or workstation, not mainstream consumer products

There is already a leaked 5600, wouldn't be surprised if a 5800 or 5900 appears in a month or two
