I was hit hard by this issue, you know, my fan speed was not going higher than 20% which is default. Due to this unfortunate thing, my GPU temperature raised up to 47 degrees centigrade under load. Why there is even custom fan control when all one needs is 20% of fan speed and silence. People have reported GPUs dead to heat while running water cooling and reaching whooping 60C. Cowie and some other members did test it and their unfortunate cards did reach high temperatures (around 100C), but did they die? No. Does GPU die in matter of minutes/hours/days upon reaching such temperature? No. There are usually many signs like artifacting and many shutdowns before GPU takes final hit. What can die is VRM, did someone report high VRM temperature? I could not find anyone here. Is there chance for GPU fatal blow to happen in just one gaming session? Extremely small, since VRMs would reach critical temperature before GPU, and Voltage drop would cause GPU to shut down anyway.

Omg, dude when the R9 series was released AMD advised that their cards are thoroughly tested at 94C, which happens to be the limit at which Powertune kicks in and throttles the clocks so that the GPU does not exceed this temp. Those who do exceed it are either lying or have a custom bios installed. Any problems those with a custom bios have are their own fault. Running CFX myself my top card will, in a demanding game, hit this threshold, thus I will often underclock slightly in order to remain below it. But often I game for hours (days even) on end with my top card in the 80's. I've had the top card for nearly 2 years. No probs whatsoever, still under the 3 year warranty too. Worrying about 47C is just being paranoid. 60C is not whopping either. Sorry to sound harsh but just trying to let you know, those temps are not/should not be a concern.

Im a bit lost with this...the hotfix its only for the 15.11 drivers? because its supposed that i have the 15.30.1025....i dont have any fan problems but i just bought just cause 3 and there is textures issues

AMD did nvidia issue but with AMD touch, high temps but no burnt cards, quick fix.

so try it with 20% fanspeed just a few minutes or days if you can with the cards under heavy load like say gpuz render test ? tell us how you make out anyways it good that they have the fix out but sadly they never pulled the bad driver??? why?

So, uh, what's the use for the update button inside the crimson stuff? It does exactly nothing.

How do I detect if my graphics card is damaged? Just run a few 3DMark benchmarks and see if there is any glitching?

47C is barely warm...;) You should make up your mind...either you run your gpu "under load" or you run it on 20% "silent" fan speed.
People have reported GPUs dead to heat while running water cooling and reaching whooping 60C.
Not possible...watercooled GPUs have no fan and would not be affected.
Cowie and some other members did test it and their unfortunate cards did reach high temperatures (around 100C), but did they die? No. Does GPU die in matter of minutes/hours/days upon reaching such temperature? No.
Anyone who would knowingly restrict his fan to 20% and then "test" it under load to see if it gets hot is an idiot...;)

There can be no "final hit" because GPUs for years have been made to shut down long before they might burn out due to temperature.
Is there chance for GPU fatal blow to happen in just one gaming session? Extremely small, since VRMs would reach critical temperature before GPU, and Voltage drop would cause GPU to shut down anyway.
Sorry, but no chance of that at all. Hasn't been for many years. GPUs will shut down first, before any damage can take place. Your post does not indicate much experience in these matters.

He was being sarcastic. He's saying that there is no way that this driver damaged cards, especially water cooled ones. I'm inclined to agree -- if any cards were actually damaged the card was already on it's way out. The thermal throttling/control will shut the card down long before there is an issue. It's being completely overplayed by tech media, which is slowly becoming the norm.

For those interested, the hot fix also has a version available for the cards just put into legacy mode as well.

After installing I have a problem while playing Fallout 4.Namely,parts of the compass turn invisible for a second or two and then they return to normal,it's nothing big but it definitely wasn't there in 15.11 version.

I think anyone unwilling to see what happens to cards with 20% under load (Hawaii)just stfu then,if you think its ok that it wont do any damage at all. that's what happened with this driver on some cards. never once did I say It will kill your cards it did not kill mine is what I said so put your money where your mouth is or as I said or sthu @Vinnie your cards are fine I am sure.

Hot-fix (in the literal sense)
https://forums.guru3d.com/data/avatars/m/90/90034.jpg
I don't think it's at all implausible that this could damage cards. If the heatsink is heatsoaked then it can't take any more thermal energy so any extra heat is going to go into the PCB and surrounding components because that's the only place for it to go. This is going to happen much more slowly in a situation where the fans are only partially cooling the heatsink, putting extra thermal load on the PCB. I find it pretty ridiculous that there are some guys calling other people out as liars; if you're one of those people then all it does is make you look like a total fanboy idiot and apologist tbh

my clocks act normal but whenever i start a game the fan gets locked at 33%

No problems here with the WHQL driver. Fan speeds work perfectly and the temp never exceeds 62C under load and idles at 30-32. There's no difference from the last CCC driver. I won't be using this hotfixed driver since the WHQL is fine.

I really love that I can be gaming for hours and my GPU fans do not even turn on ^^ Must say I'm Very Happy with my new Sapphire Fury Tri-X, keeps my games at a solid 60fps and runs so cool the fans almost never switch on and then only to 20 - 30% when they finally do. Even uses about 100 watts less in game than my 290X did too 🙂 Really is a win for people running their PC 24/7 and the way forward. So many of my GFx cards have had fans wear out and start vibrating making a crazy annoying loud noise >_<

can I just install this over the previous Crimson driver or should I do a clean install?
