would have liked to see it at 400$ but this makes alot more sense now, the price was far too close to the 7800xt to justify stepping down and was competing with 6700/6750xt in overall price to performance

It still does not make sense. 7800xt has dropped below 500€ its much better choice.

But the HD 7770 was only $159? 🙄 :p

Those times are over. HD 7770 vs GTX560 both great cards, great price.

It wouldn't sting as much if they didn't BS to the moon and beyond with the naming. "7700XT" my asshole, even calling it a 7600 is a stretch IMO. Even the 4090 which was praised as the only one with a name that matched the performance wasn't a "4090" IMO, it was so cut down it was the successor to the 3080 more realistically.

All names and prices are BS right now. Still. It may take 2 generations at least of no special inflated demand for the product lines to really make sense for the average gamer.

Agree^...the last mid-range card to impress me was the 3060ti. Still faster than a New 4060!...we are definitely going backwards in the mid-range Department.

You can keep going way back... a 1080 Ti is roughly in 2080 territory, which is roughly in 3060 territory (or was it 3060 Ti?) which is in 4060 (or 4060 Ti?) territory. The so-called mid-range of the 4K series matches a high end, not the top, 1K series card, while costing an arm and a leg relative to what you'd expect it to be based on its name, which it obviously isn't. AMD offered no competition to lower prices, they just basically matched the Green Goblin, and we all got screwed. I hope anyone, even Intelmao, swoop in and eat their lunches within the next few years. I heard Battlemage desktop isn't completely scrapped and they will indeed have a mid-range-ish card from that arch... eventually.

Like the others said, a $30 reduction still isn't enough. The performance level is fine for me but I'm not willing to spend more than $400 on it.

7700xt isnt worth even 400$. Its in a very bad spot. Is it a 1080p or a 1440p card. It has a 12gb vram, raytracing performance is alot to be desired, priced very close to much better 7800xt. Its a shame as last gen 6700xt was one of the best midrange cards still offering great value.

The last midrange which had impressed me was GTX970 even with its 3.5GB fiasco. Regarding 7700xt, both 7700xt / 4060ti should be 300$ card at best. This crappy era of discrete GPU can milk us as much as they want; but i am not going to be a part of it. I have stopped upgrading gpus , don't know when i will ; if i ever do... The hell with this pathetic pricing of GPUs

I just discovered 5k VSR and my games look so crispy, sharp, and good. I see nothing worth it atm. Maybe when the 6800 is 350$ but might as well wait until 8xxx series.

I agree it isn't worth $400 either but I've come to the conclusion that I'm never going to get a real upgrade to my system unless I spend at least $400 and the price trends aren't really going down. AMD offers an overall better experience on Linux than Windows. So, as a Linux user who prefers not to use AA, this will function fine as a 4K no-RT card for me. It might not last me anywhere near as long as my nearly decade-old R9 290 but my next upgrade will be when a mid-tier GPU can enable RT in 4K @ 60FPS without the use of FSR/DLSS/XeSS.
