Nice to see 4gb of ram handling 4k content without any issues, I love the form factor for this card, would be brilliant in a mini ITX build for 4k gaming, I thought the fury would be same or better than the 980TI, lets see how well this overclocks once the voltage can be tweaked

I think the 980ti blindsided them. FuryX probably had lower clocks initially but 980ti came out they had to raise the clocks a bit to bring it closer in performance. This may have left very little OC headroom as we have just seen. Just a guess based on what they did with bulldozer. 😀

Let's be honest. If AMD has released this card 5 months ago this review would have read quite a bit different. Overclock would have still been disappointing but the performance would have been praised. It is a good card there are just better alternatives available already.

Drivers, drivers, drivers...hopefully the Fiji cards will truly shine by the time W10/DX12 arrive.

So, nVidia does not need to lower prices on current cards or hurry up with their next gen GPUs. It is a good release that bring some equilibrium, but not a game changer. Excellent review, btw. Thanks.

great review! excellent temps idle/load! but my point is, if 980ti is 675$, fury X should be 600$ why? because 980ti overclocked alot better. will wait a couple of days before i finally decide.
We have no voltage and memory control over this card just yet

That's the problem though, Loophole. This is all too little too late. AMD is getting beat to the punch over and over now. They are suffering, hard. Many of us hoped this would give them a leg up finally. But once again, AMD's just playing catch up. If they priced this thing at the same as the vanilla 980, now we are talking. But it's not, it's about the same price as a 980 Ti. The ONE thing going for it is the cooler. But it's got a higher powerdraw, it's all around notably slower. This can hardly even be called 'catch up' imho.

Pfffft, all this hype for that. Not impressed. Yes its small form factor, but thats hardly something to boast about as it has a water cooling loop and radiator/fan to find room for. Yes its loads temps are low...as you'd expect....its water cooled. Its performance that matters.

Totally agree. It's sad because we need competition to drive prices down. That isn't going to happen. AMD needs to get back into the game to recover market share for both GPUs and CPU's otherwise were going to be stuck with no alternatives.

I dunno, even 5 months ago, this would have been disappointing from a "raising the bar" standpoint. Gamers have had the 980 and 970 out there with nice price/performance ratios for 9 months now as well as the recent 290X pricing. Then there's the obvious crown holder, TitanX. AMD has been touting this HBM as the 2nd coming and here's their all-new flagship card just barely beating the aging (lol) 980. On a side note, did AMD even release a video driver today? Haven't heard about one. I don't understand why anyone is exited about AMD these days. They're like one of your children who keeps disappointing you. You still love them but you just shake your head in disgust more often then not...

'Impression' is very view-dependent, IMO. I will be waiting to see how it performs on Win 10 with more mature drivers before passing judgment. Thanks for the VERY detailed review, HH

Thank you HH My next card(s) will be 980Ti Good, but OVERhyped product. It just ain't enough to tempt me away from Nvidia. Drivers, drivers, drivers... Meh, they will suck in CFX as ALWAYS.

Cancelled new monitor, going Ti (so will be able to keep my monitor i got now due to them still having the DVI), its getting smashed off the Ti, and even beat off the 980 in some. 🙁

@Hootmon, I see a lot of people saying that, and I can't say that's a good excuse. You want to sell a $650 GPU it better work and perform like a $650 now. There ain't no 'steam early access' GPU's, lol. I can see it now, 'don't worry, the GPU sucks now but just buy it, it will get better later we promise'.

Thanks for the review Boss, finally glad we can put all the hype and speculation in stone with actual figures and actual results. Makes it much more difficult for someone like myself to upgrade, makes the 980 more or less the card to buy: 970 around £280 still. 290/290X being phased out in favour of 390/390X which are far too expensive currently (MSI one being £360!). The 980 can be had for around ~£400 with more performance and efficiency. The 980 Ti is out of my price range, and now this comes along at £600! Lets hope the Fury/Nano yield better results. I would be happy with the rumoured 390X level performance, but with much less power draw and a lower price.

I think something interesting with this card is frame time performance. It's a shame that FCAT benches could only be performed at 1080p so aren't directly comparable to other cards, but even though the hard numbers show lower fps for the Fury X it appears that the bandwidth of the HBM memory gives a very smooth gameplay experience.

im not going TI yet will stick to my 290x till drivers matured for this thing...if its that good at 4k it will be better at lower res once the drivers are optimized...

Same here, really enjoyed my time with the msi 290 but i'm going 980ti the whole 300 range been just recycled was a kicker but this is just the cherry on the cake imo If it was £400 it might stand a chance but its not so it won't.

I knew it amd cant beat Maxwell, kinda hopes this would happen. But next year fury will trash 980ti when drivers are optimized and nvidia gimp maxwell
