a fuse? maybe an e-fuse or logical fuse. made me think of a real fuse that once tripped, needs to be replaced... 😎

Well, we like to see over clocking record bring beaten, whereas CPU with a fuse of sorts, will hinder the OC.

efuses are electronically triggered fuses , i think the most well known instance of their use was with the xbox 360, which had a number of efuses, that would blow during a software update , and would essentially make it impossible to downgrade the console. in this case , if the user enables overclocking, efuses are blown and so amd can tell if a chip has been overclocked, it doesnt actually effect the function of the chip it seems

Does anyone that actually uses a threadrypper for work ACTUALLY overclocking it? In my mind if you use it for work you need stability above everything!

Some people would overclock a washing machine if they could. This is for them. 😀

It's probably more than you think, just enabling PBO nets a sizable performance increase on threadrippers , >20% in many cases.

Enabling PBO increased the power usage like 2x on these cpus.

thats what massive heatsinks and water cooling is for 😀

Probably for the best that it doesn't void warranty. If they are providing software and feature sets to include it as a selling point, and reviews all involve and include it, they would be facing a difficult uphill battle of both litigation and consumer interest if PBO suddenly cooked a bunch of CPU's and refused to replace them (whether you agreed to the T&C's or not).

man pbo on my 5800x it is so bad is not even funny 180 watts ..... just to get all core boost of 4.55 and single core 4.850 ...... now i have it undervolted all core boost 4.6 and consumes 90 watts with much muuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuch lower temps !
