I can see these using gddr5 or gddr5x to keep costs down, gddr6 is expensive and I would think they want more to distinguish their products apart.

128bit is disappointing, as I know people who need more for work purposes but don't want to go 5700 due to price. We'll have to wait and see.

Who cares about bit bus nowadays though? My 390X has 512bit but it ain't better than 256bit RX580/590 due to old arch and lower clocks! So, 5600 could easily be a better choice than RX500 series despite half the bus. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Let's see cost and performance before deciding if this is a good or bad move. AMD is out to defend their position in a price/performance context so I reckon (well, hope!) this is not a short sighted decision!

Sure there is a possibility of bottleneck, but we are talking about AMD not NVidia eh? ๐Ÿ˜‰ Question is how strong will it be as a Navi. Will it be at RX560 class (128bit) refresh levels? Or it will be a pleasant surprise for the price range? We'll see. I guess it is viable to have near RX 580 performance with half consumption, half bus width with RX 5600 XT and near RX 570 performance with half consumption and half bus width with RX 5600. It could be done, if it is done right I believe.

You completely ignored what I said and proceeded to ramble about your own opinion. I care, and a friend of mine cares too. I'm certain allot more people knowing how it affects performance will care too. Generally, bus is chosen according to performance of the GPU, VRam speed and price. If the cards bring faster GDDR6, I see why AMD wont extend the bus over 128 as it will probably have enough bandwidth for gaming. But will the bus affect other software, like drawing and rendering CAD 3D etc, or will the bandwidth alone mater? And if they really cheap out and put normal GDDR5 on it, it's DOA for me. Not everyone uses the cards just for gaming, for that AMD balances the card accordingly.

If AMD is targeting a 75w TDP for the 5600 you have your answer for 128bit bus. No extra power connection means you just increased the number of OEM PC's you can easily put this card into by a metric ton.

Isn't it technically a replacement for the RX560? I don't know what variant of Polaris that's considered but it also has a 128bit bus and ~75w TDP. Presumably this card will have Navi's improved compression and faster memory clocks. So I don't see why it wouldn't at least beat the card it's supposed to replace?

In terms of performance RX 5500 will be like RX 560. So we can assume 5300 and 5500 goes OEM also. That bus will not be a bottleneck to RX 5600 series because they will be as powerful as RX 570/580. You can buy RX 570/580 anytime you want to not be afraid of width anyway, it is so cheap.

I assumed it did because I feel like a normal company would try to maintain some kind of naming system but AMD's marketing team seems to defy normality.

Why not on a 5500? I initially said 5600 because I assumed it was replacing the RX560 - but a 5500? The RX 560 already has non-PCI-E power variants. Why wouldn't a 7nm, updated version not be able to do that?

I bet they are gonna to replace a higher performance GPU sector than an RX560. Both 5500 and 5600. Juts thing about the 5700 performance range: going straight back to replace a humble RX 560 is going to leave a huge performance range out of the market. And I bet to see 8 GB GDDR6 options (otherwise a 128-bit like bus would be really a poor combination). Maybe OEMs ~5500 (or less) are going to be cheap and like a RX 560 or less with 4GB GDDR5 (and 128-bit bus..or even less like every discount-like OEM products we are used to see..). Anyway, there are just some days to wait..

Titan series were, are and always will be out of AMDโ€™s league. They need next Gen to beat this. Like fury x needed Vega 56 to beat 980ti to a pulp as a start. So young big Navi will beat the hell crap out of 2080ti and older big Navi will warm the throne for new Nvidia's flagship unless they already have ready a 2080ti super.
