19 models??? WHY??? Anyone remember the days when a new product came onto the market and there was just one model, sometimes three; 'like high medium and low? 19...that's just killing the market. https://www.entrepreneur.com/article/220604 /snip "Unable to explain why so many products were necessary, Jobs asked his team of top managers, "Which ones do I tell my friends to buy?" I would just rather buy a blower rx5700 at that price.

If you have 10 manufacturers and if every one of them has 2 models... That is like, mmm, 20 models? They are all different with their heatsinks and so

Here, for little more, you can buy a decent cooled 5700. Both 5500 and 5600 are the worst value propositions, ever. *Looks at 5 months old RX580 inside PC case*

I had a original release Powercolor Red Devil 5600 XT. It will not run correctly with the updated bios (lockups, video tdr failures etc) . Card is very unstable with the memory clocked at 1750. I am not alone as I've seen other posts by users with other brands of 5600 XT that are having similar issues when they update the cards bios. I returned mine to Powercolor and they sent me a new one and the new one still didn't have the new bios. It is running prefect like it is and I'm afraid to flash it.

Nice.. another product you need a private detective to know what you're buying.

I was referring to electronics manufacturers in very general terms - as for reference models from AMD, 19 is pushing the limits of acceptability. I honestly thought this year was going to be the year that AMD gained a significant % of the consumer-grade market, giving the competition a genuine run for its money - but now? Forget it. You do not confuse and obfuscate your intended customers to such a nutty amount. HIGH MEDIUM LOW That; is all you need...peoples piggy banks will do the rest, after HH does the tests! Can you imagine how nutty HH's graphs will look like? It will takes weeks to run the level of comprehensive tests required to do this, and, what if there are 4 different card producers? that's like 56 different tests! I suspect AMD hired people from the drinks industry, or, the music industry to come up with this insane level of product lines...

YES! I could not agree more 'sir.

For some people doing itx builds -myself included- the blower cooler works much more efficiently than these beefier heatsinks that exhaust into your case.

Yeah this is like the third 5600 now isn't it? 5600, 5600 with the bios flash and compatible and thus hitting that earlier memory speed (12 was it?) Now this and knowing the serial number and bios and other names setting it apart from the default and the 12 GB/s version as a 14 GB/s version. No doubt third party designs will also be expanding on it so there's a whole lot of retail models and not knowing this and product SKU's and such to set them apart quickly becomes a mess.\ EDIT: Oh right there's also the 5600's without the bios that have to be flashed manually which may or may not have been compatible with the newer memory speeds so kinda four base models with that too and however many variants from Asus, Sapphire, Gigabyte and all the rest at 3 - 4 cards or more. (19 just for this new model here.) EDIT: Wonder how the binning here is. So the non-5700 XT chips that didn't make it going down to 5700 and then 5600 which would then utilize available memory chips and supplies for higher binned GDDR6 modules for hitting 11, 12 and now this 14 GB/s then? (Which I think is also the full speed here for GDDR6 currently?) Would allow using as much as possible thus why the 5600 has these extra variants and I suppose it overcomes part of the memory limit and bottleneck here that AMD has had on their cards for a while. (HBM probably helped but that's costly stuff.) Well that and competing against NVIDIA as they can thus the quick bios update and initial confusion about the first few batches I think it was.

For those who cannot be bothered to read, this is simply nothing more than an official list from an official announcement. Otherwise, nothing has changed and no, there are not 4 different levels of the 5600XT, *sigh*. (Be my guest and correct me, if I am wrong.)

There aren't 19 reference models though, it's 7 different MFGs each with 1-4 models. That seems to fall right around you're ideal stack of Hi, Med, Low models. Maybe I've misread or missed your point. Where we definitely do agree is that GPU lineups are stuffed to the gills to the point it's a headache to parse through all the models to find what suits you. It's gotta be extra disorienting for people new to pc hardware who don't totally know what they're looking for.

Oh for fs... it's not about 19 different models. It's about AMD officially ninja editing some 5600 XT models to 14Gbps. RTFM AMD announced on May 4, 2020 (local time), a graphics card, the "Radeon RX 5600 XT" in a version compatible with a memory data-rate of 14 Gbps. That doesn't mean there won't be 12 Gbps SKUs, just a number of cards support 14 Gbps by BIOS update or can be purchased like that

If the 5600 XT would have released with the correct bios in the first place with the proper MSRP it would have been a home run.

Perhaps I'm either too tired at the moment or simply too dense to grasp the point you're trying to make. Or, there is the very real possibility it could be a case of both. As Toadstool points out, these are nineteen different SKUs, (none of them "reference"), from seven manufacturers. How is that sort of proliferation any different, in any way, from any other particular graphics card model? The only graphics card that comes to mind in recent times that didn't get the multiple-model cha-cha from all the board partners was the short-lived Radeon VII. "I suspect AMD hired people from the drinks industry, or, the music industry to come up with this insane level of product lines..." I really don't see how this is an AMD issue. Or, for that matter, an issue with Nvidia, either. Are you thinking they should insist that, for each GPU, there should only be a single card from each manufacturer, all with identical clocks and, where applicable, amount of VRAM? And, differentiating only in appearance, thermals, acoustics and, of course, price? I mean, if an AIB wants buy chips and market ten different cards using the same GPU, should either AMD or Nvidia refuse? About ten days ago, a co-worker and I were researching RTX 2070 Supers for a new rig he wants to build for his family. (Social-distancing be damned.) If I recall correctly, and I'm too weary at the moment to check, we found dozens of models, with GPU clocks running from 1770MHz to, I think, 1905MHz. (?) Memory speeds from 14,000MHz to 15,500MHz. To be clear, I'm *not* picking on Nvidia, it's board partners, or the 2070S. But, is that an example of "obfuscation" or just variety? I'd say the latter. And, I don't see how this is meaningfully different than the current 5600 XT situation. To be sure, AMD could certainly have handled this much more gracefully, but the end result is different 5600 XT cards will have different clocks. If there is any obfuscation afoot in the graphics card industry it is the nebulous terms used to describe various p-states. We have things like, "Core Clock' "Core Clock OC" "Game Clock" "Gaming Mode Clock" "Boost Clock" "Boost Clock OC" "Silent Clock" "Onset of Matter/Anti-matter Containment-Loss Clock" ...and about 13 others I missed. This is where I feel Jensen and Dr. Su need to both send an internal directive to their respective marketing and engineering departments, as well as have a serious chat with their various board partners.
data/avatar/default/avatar15.webp
there are major caveats to the 14Gbps VBIOS updates on existing cards. For example, the Gigabyte 5600 XT Gaming OC only allows the 14Gbps revision to cards in the F1-F10 VBIOS range. Most of the sold revisions of this GPU run an F60 VBIOS that DOES NOT permit the FA0 or F2 revisions per Gigabytes instructions. I know, because I purchased this SKU from Micro Center on 4/16 and learned the hard way. It was incredibly misleading. The F60 VBIOS rev isn't available on Gigabyte's website but can be pulled from TechPowerUp's VBIOS database. There should be a huge disclaimer on Guru3D's article letting people know how shifty actually getting a 14Gbps revision to work can be.

Base model 219 msrp like the 480 had and leave the oc headroom for people that want to play with it, what makes me sad is that amd for the most part does not price competitively their cards but according to how close to their Nvidia counterparts are ....

I was never a fan of Apple but I liked Steve. You went on apple.com, laptops, you had three laptops. Just checked and it is still that way.

damn.. blower or -2gb vram I would just get something substantially higher or lower in price to avoid such an impasse

But...how many configurations of their products are there? That is kinda the underpinning point. Car manufacturers suffer the same fate with a near infinitely configurable model range of vehicles. If I were to sit down each and everyone on GURU3D gameshow, where HH is the presenter of the game show and everyone had to answer questions as to which model of Apple product, or, graphics card, or, vehicle; was 'the best', no one would know the answer. Dilution of model range leads to killing off your own market.

I bought a Powercolor RX 5600 XT Red Dragon with the new BIOS installed and 14GBPS sticker on the box and same problem, the most I got it to last for was 1 Hour 17 Minutes running it at 30% less power, the card was red hot to the touch when I removed it from my system all over. Even in Windows and opening Steam was enough to trigger a hard crash Running the Division 2 caused overheat sparkles on the monitor after 20 minutes at stock settings. I've got a Corsair RM 750X PSU which 80+ Gold and tried both sets of AMD Drivers from clean installs via DDU and my rig was having none of it. Stuck my GTX 1660 back in and overclocked it has far as it could go and the system is stable as a rock. I've asked for a return and refund for the 5600 XT but I may try a older BIOS flash on it while I'm waiting and see what it does. (If I can still find a working old image)
