I refuse to upgrade as long as fancy DDR4 module prices are not coming down, and they probably won't. We can get a killer multicore setup these days ,in a vast contrast to 1 to 1.5 years ago, but due to ridiculous RAM prices it is still very expensive. My X5650 6c/12t @ 4Ghz will have to do for now.

Clearing inventory ahead of the Ryzen 2 launch in March.

Yip, me also, my 2700K at 5ghz and 16gb RAM is more than fast enough for my 1080Ti at 4k, wish i could convince myself to upgrade but theres no reason and those RAM prices are insane.

Let's keep our fingers crossed they will do the same with Ryzen 2 when I make my purchase.

Meanwhile in Europe...
https://i.imgur.com/hXXe6hF.png ( amazon.de )
Europe always have higher prices over USA, blame European parliament.

In italy a 1700x is priced like a 7700k, is about 150 euro less than before O_O https://www.amazon.it/s/ref=nb_sb_noss_1?__mk_it_IT=ÅMÅŽÕÑ&url=search-alias=aps&field-keywords=1700x. I'm really tempted but i can get an 8700k for 370 euro...and its really time to change my fx 8350
If you need it, buy it now. If you can wait, Zen+ is coming March. Although it won't be more than 5/10% increase in performance, it will bring a new chipset with more features.
cryohellinc:

Zen+ can be a potential upgrade for me, however if it won't be able to reach 4.5ghz OC, won't see a point to move from my i7-4770k @4.5. However those 8 cores are bloody attractive for the long run! 🙂
Why are you still comparing clocks in 2018? I need to buy another rig for the sake or rendering and gaming so I can give this one to my mom (she's on my old P4@3.0Gz). But wile DDR4 prices are at +200€ for 16Gb, I'll stick with my 2500K.

Well at 4k for the most part it doesn't matter what CPU you use as long as it isn't a bit of rubbish, the bottleneck becomes the GPU at that stage.
cryohellinc:

Ah the benefits of a proper economic system. Moving back to UK next year.
Yeah we have a bit of competition in the tech departments here with Ebuyer, Scan and Overclockers (guess amazon too) keeping themselves all honest, they cannot over price stuff or risk customers going elsewhere... Still sometimes the prices make no sense, and america still tends to get a better deal than us over here...
Silva:

Why are you still comparing clocks in 2018? .
Clocks only matter when its the same architecture otherwise yeah doesn't always mean much. Still biggest thing keeping AMD processors back is the clock speeds, hopefully Ryzen+ will see a bump up on that front im expecting something like 4.3/4.4ghz boost clocks (maybe 4.5ghz if it can be pushed) will see intel and AMD differences become even smaller then than they are now... Though i head Zen+ was out in April this year... and Ram might be allowed up to 4000mhz which will be interesting as i know people who struggle to even get to 3000mhz right now on some ram and some motherboards

Does that include things made in Asia? I'm not implying anything here, I'm just asking off-topic out of pure curiosity.

I agree Zen+ probably won't see much beyond a 10% improvement, but, it is a new fabrication node. The main appeal is whether or not the overclockability has improved, and by how much. Based on the price drops AMD has been doing lately, they must be pretty confident that people will upgrade, because I'm pretty sure most people with modern hardware are not going to upgrade their hardware for just a 10% boost. After all, AMD caters to budget-minded people, so anyone who already owns a Ryzen are not going to upgrade for reasons like "because I can".
Why are you still comparing clocks in 2018?
I'd say in this case, that was a valid comparison. Haswell may lack the refinements that Ryzen or Coffee Lake offer, but a 4.5GHz 4770K is still (in most cases) going to be better at gaming than a Ryzen 5, and you don't need anything better than a Ryzen 5 for strictly gaming purposes.

I've just read the article about the new chipset and it says April. I'm not sure anymore when it will come. Performance uplift should be around 10% so 4.4Ghz Boost will be great. It's not about who's got the biggest clocking chip, it's about who can produce more work.

I'm a little suspicious of the so-called "price cuts". Newegg has a habit of manipulating their prices... Check out these prices for last November (lower) and today (higher). I'm not sure if today's prices reflect the price cut. https://imgur.com/wr1ztGh https://imgur.com/0IkICs7

There is a thing called minimum VAT , in nutshell all EU members have agreed to have minimum VAT below which neither EU member can go, and that is 15%

Well IPC these days has gotten to be a slow crawl, Hence why i believe the clock wars are over and the core wars are coming in, we might start to see single thread performance not matter anymore and it be all about muti-thread workloads using 8/10/12+ cores on your typical average machine. Time will of course tell, however Clock speeds still have their role to play till we see this change up

While most of what you said is true, the process on which the processors are built, will also play a role. Efficiency will be the next big thing to brag about. In a few years we'll be having fanboys fighting like... "my processor is on 7nm, it is 2 Watts more efficient than yours!"

Yes there is tax from the EU, then the recycle tax (from +2% to +8%) ... and on top of that there is the national tax like IVA in spain or the awesome 🙁 TVA in france (+21% !!!) Also the Tax Free price is inflated at the price with tax of the neighbourg country in some country that doesn't have those last tax (yes you can be lost there lol), and the limit of importation is different from country to other for the same destination. Also there is custom special law, that make product ok for some country and illegal in other (some WiFi stuff or the HHK pro 2 from past news in guru3d)

I assume Zen+ is on target for release if they're cutting prices.

Yikes.... and I thought US states like California and Massachusetts (where I'm from) had excessive taxes...

If that little tax of 21% VAT in France made you scared what would VAT of 25% that is in my country (Croatia) do to you 🙂:)

I was going to stay quiet because Portugal only has 23% for our consume tax. Even electricity is taxed at 23%! But then there are other stupid taxed amounting hidden that people don't know about. The worst of all is that after all those taxes, some countries manage to give good quality of life to their citizens and others piss on them.

So true... In Portugal we pay taxes like crazy and most of it is wasted...

You really really don't want to get me start talking how bad is in Croatia, with million and one different taxes , rampant corruption, nepotism, and all that s**t, no wander that since we joined EU couple hundred thousand people decided to move to greener pastures. 🙁 To be honest if i didn't broke my back , i too would be among them
