Prices adapt to the market, not the other way around. Yes, AMD can release a 500 dollar 6 core, but anyone who will NOT buy a 500 dollar 6 core (or an OEM that has 6 cores for .. lets say 1200 dollars) is a lost customer. GPUs for mining is an anomaly, not the norm. Ryzen 5000 was quite expensive, but as soon as Intel came back swinging, Ryzen 5000 prices dropped, X370 motherboards got support for Ryzen 5000. If you cant wait a year or two to upgrade cheaper, you are paying the premium for getting "the new thing". That is your choice. Prices over all for electronics are probably as good as they are gonna get (in terms of new technology pushing previous technology prices down). Look at inflation everywhere. If you think AMD and Intel don't KNOW how many people are holding on to previous gen CPUs (or GPUs) because the current gen is either too expensive or not enough of an improvement, just look at how much PR money is thrown around. That PR money is there to try to convince you that you should. Especially when you have a BAD product (Remember the "just buy it" article from tom hardware when nVidia released the 2000 series?). But we (people who read tech news and reviews on websites) are such a minority, that we are not even a blip on the radar. Less than 1% of PCs are non-OEMs. That 99%? They are NOT buying a new PC if their old one still works. And they especially don't buy a new PC that is "expensive" by their standards if their old PC works. The only reason we (the enthusiast crowd) matter is because we buy MORE than your typical soccer mom. We are the ones to tell family and friends what to buy, we are the ones that build PCs for others and we are the ones showing the latest game to those around us (in short, we push the industry forward). Ask your Mom if she even knows what nVidia does 😀.

CPC_RedDawn:

Just me guessing what I think AMD might do this coming generation. Thinking about it, something like this seems more plausible. Ryzen 7600 6c/6t $299 Ryzen 7600XT 6c/12t $399 Ryzen 7700XT 8c/16t $499 Ryzen 7800XT 12c/16t $599 Ryzen 7900XT 16c/32t $699 Ryzen 7950XT 24c/48t $799 Ryzen 7950XT3D 24c/48t $999 (possibly even over $1k for 3D stacked version) All having boost clocks of at least 5GHz, IPC of around 20-25% faster than Zen3. With the 7950XT3D hitting near 30% faster IPC.
I hope your guesses are wrong by a long margin because i´m thinking about the future octa core from AMD but i don`t want to pay 500€ for it...
