Said it before and I'll say it again, AMD's value cannot be beat right now.

Let's hope we can enjoy from competitive growth for many years to come. Not trying to defend anyone but a company main goal is money, some don't mind doing dirty tactics for it. When there's so much lucrative potential, there's always new individuals and companies stepping up. This kind of business is special, it's very hard to make these products and many companies have failed and non existent today. We, as informed consumers, should always buy the best bang for buck. Paying more for a marginal increase is cementing market domination for a company, that will never end good. If not for AMD, I'd still have my 2500K "and going strong" as some might still say it. Really happy with my Ryzen 2600 and hopping to upgrade in the future, as we don't need a new motherboard every CPU generation! Intel is OK, they still have mindshare, server and mobile market. Plus: AMD can't supply all the world needs of microprocessors, or Intel would lower their prices even further. AMD just made a huge dent on Intel profit.

10 successive quarters of growth is quite an achievement actually. Ryzen was AMD's return to form big time and by the looks of it we'll soon have another Athlon XP situation where Intel plays catch up both in price and performance. AMD already has the process advantage, I'm hoping they play it smart and reap all the benefits from that. IPC (clock matched) is already on par with Intel pretty much so next big step is perhaps lower memory latency and increase boost clocks. Or work some other magic to compensate. Rumours suggest Ryzen 4000 should see another major gain in IPC and given how Ryzen 3000 turned out the rumours might turn out to be true.

phew... it's just 50% of "premium" segment. imagine if 180M was all they earned while having 50% of entire CPU market.

Its a damn good start but they need this to trickle down into the higher volume sales.

One question, what´s the premium CPU segment??? CPUs that cost more than 500€? Workstation CPUs like Treadripper?

It isn't the segment that sells the most CPUs.

I think they are basically talking about us - people buying cpu's for home builds - which I can believe. It doesn't help that AMD intentionally make the breakdown useless. I mean you see 2 figures, one for gpu's + cpu's neither of which are related. In the second figure you have semi custom (basically consoles) and enterprise (basically server sales) neither of which have anything to do with each other. I'm guessing this was originally (pre ryzen) to hide weak cpu sales behind the gpu sales, and weak server sales behind the consoles so we couldn't see how badly the cpu division was doing. It's probably reversed now with the cpu's doing well and the gpu/consoles doing much worse, but who knows?

Excellent news and is...as it should be, given historical circumstances. There's no doubt we'll all continue to benefit from this extremely welcome competition via better pricing and a hefty dose of innovation - from all players. Long may this last.

The title could be misleading, the devil is in the details. It is 50%+ share in "many" (so not all) "leading etailers". Like those mindfactory (german etailer) stats proved that AMD is selling much better in DIY market space. But the problem is not there, the problem is expanding as fast as possible in the OEM to reach the 50%+ share in the desktop. I still believe AMD is supply constraint, and hopefully H2 2020 might be better on that side. But they will always be supply constraint unless mixing multi-generational products ; a mix of 7nm & 5nm products at TSMC by late 2021 is their best hope of flooding the market with their products. It's either that, or producing some chips at TSMC and some chips at Samsung.

I really don't think it's TSMC that is the bottleneck its how much AMD prepays to make. AMD already stated as much that TSMC can supply whatever they need its just AMD has to plan and pay to make enough in the first place.

they probably mean enthusiasts buying at 300-500$, but this is marketshare in sales, not total numbers, they probably have years to go before getting a third of that hopefully intels continues tumbling around until then, maybe even offer us a 3080ti killer in the mean time?

It isnt Intel that brings Nvidia 3080TI...

I think you mis-read his statement. He stated he hopes Intel continues to tumble, and also hopes AMD(or maybe Intel?) brings out a 3080ti killer. Two separate things.

The bigger the firm, the harder it is to keep the organization innovative, especially when you're in leading position without a strong competition forcing you to question yourself. I don't blame Intel, and its 110 200 mouths to feed (aka employee number), but surely we can all appreciate what AMD and its 11 400 mouths to feed brought to the table lately !

I buy from whoever gives me a good deal, excluding super buggy drivers (Radeon drivers were so bad here, on Dec 2 it scrambled the desktop and BSOD'ed the computer, and wasn't overclocked). So I have a 3700x, x570 ATX mainboard (the cheapest one), and a 2070 Super (content creation + RTX = win). Stock cooled, no RGB except in the stock cooler, no overclocking etc. I just wanted a solid system to do what I needed to do on it, with content creation and occasional (for the most part) light-gaming here and there. Running the driving simulator BeamNG is no light task processor-wise, so lots of cores helps here (BeamNG will use all the cores you can give it), especially when running traffic enabled. I couldn't be bothered to pay HUNDREDS more to have 5% more performance on an intel on an older platform (lacking new things like PCI-E 4.0 for example, plus motherboard costing MORE), and actually less performance when doing many of my content creation tasks. Plus, I can put a 16 core 32-thread chip in here if I so wish, and even cool it with an affordable heat-sink and fan combo, without needing refrigeration units. RTX is useless outside of Quake II RTX, UNLESS you do content creation, then it's super-useful. I couldn't take another crash-tastic Radeon though. No more. AMD Ryzen 3xxx series on a new motherboard works great and does all I need it to do - bonus: even when I have 16 threads going in the background, it doesn't lag the whole system out, that's an amazing scheduler (plus lots of L3 cache) for what it's worth. That's a very very important thing, something my Haswell i7 could not muster. It means even when the system is technically 100% busy, I can keep working, or watching a video while I eat, etc. I have nothing but praise for the Ryzen CPU line and freeing us from 'Quad core hell' of so long with intel and their spoon-feeding us 2% upgrades yearly. Conversely... I have nothing but words I cannot print on this forum they are so bad, for Radeon Rubbish GFX. I wouldn't take one if it was free except to sell it, for anything beyond web browser use. I tried everything. It didn't know how to even clock it's own card core clock properly on Windows 10 (and this issue was not limited to my own machine. I actually had to write the Radeon drivers team about it, so they could 'figure it out' and 'fix' it). I am sure on gaming it is not as bad (provided you don't play Bethesda games using Gamebryo engine either), but I lost a LOT of work over the several years I ran the RX 480 8gb card and I don't miss that. Oh, and I can go out to dinner-for-two once a month extra after paying the power bill due to how much LESS power this uses VS my old intel chip. It doesn't bake me out of the room in spring/fall either when the AC isn't on.

Dinner for two? Now that's a win-win in my book.

For us musicians, right now AMD is excellent value for money. We have the numbers to compare now and they look really nice. AMD 3950X bests Intel 10980XE for number of effects for mixing, while is only a little bit slower for live instrument play. AMD £680 vs Intel £1500...

From my reading, the latencies inherent on the AMD platform is still the main issue. Not performance.

I'm not seeing that in the benchmarks, although the AMD systems use 3600MHz RAM modules to maximise performance. http://www.scanproaudio.info/2020/02/27/2020-q1-cpus-in-the-studio-overview/ I'd probably get memory like this to match https://www.overclockers.co.uk/corsair-vengeance-lpx-black-32gb-2x16gb-3600-mhz-amd-ryzen-tuned-ddr4-memory-dual-kit-my-4cl-cs.html
