VR headset for Scorpio incoming?
Now that they have 60HGz wifi, all they need is the headset

60GHz "wifi" is capable to do 4.6Gbps = 0.575GB/s. That's not small volume of data. There is one interesting thing about headsets. Electronic is completely stuffed into it. But what if all processing stuff was on waist/belt attached device. And headset was lightweight device with just display. Cellphone displays do not need much electronics to show stuff, nor are they connected via dozens of wires.

I wonder where AMD gets the money to buy such a company as they're usually in the reds with quaterly numbers... I'm confused.

Then you answered your own question as you don't understand and they probs do lol Sozz fella just messing lol Prob because they believe wireless vr is going to be big which it probably will maybe not just for gaming but professional environment

Yeah I know you were trying to troll 😉 I meant more something like if some rumor about Xbox VR is around that they might be trying to build for MS or anything. I too believe VR will only make it if it becomes wireless, not too much of a fan of the cabled hardware we got right now. I was just surprised that AMD already has gotten back enough cash flow to spend large sums for taking over that company. Not that it would be a stupid move at all, could very much pay off in the long run.

Well, you'd have to buff up the weight by adding the required batteries, so might not be any weightsavings at all.

Wireless would make the most practical use of VR, the biggest issue for some games is motion Sickness for quite a lot of people but I'm sure I read somewhere they working on ways to eliminate motion sickness, not sure they can fully for everyone with some types of games it doesn't mean those who suffer VR motion sickness suffer with it from all types of VR games or will from other types of up coming applications for VR I love VR but sadly for me, the types of games I like to play make me feel ill in VR ... I wonder what other uses they will try the tech with.

It is about weight placed on head and momentum when you are moving. You will hardly notice 2kg on your belt. But 50g vs 250g on your head is very noticeable. Especially when you are moving.

Just hope the batteries don't catch fire while using it " wow I can smell burning rubber in foz vr" but yeah if it's going to be truly wireless then it will require good battery for power, never understood wireless hifi speakers because you still have to plug them in wall socket.... 7.1 wireless ummmm sneaky.

It's not so much about acquiring new company, and the money required for direct purchase. It's about running costs, R&D and and additional investments, and getting themselves involved in yet another fundamental tech. As if they dont have enough on their plate. I know zero about current map of 60GHz Wi-Fi, whos leading, whos not, but I seriously doubt they can slug it out against the big boys just because they acquired some tiny company which might have had lead at some point in time. And just when we thought that AMD has regained some semblance of focus. This will be another Icera.
