AMD nerfed 7800X3D so hard to push the sale of the higher model. 7950X3D, @nizzen you seeing this, man?

Great news , Ryzen 7xxx X3D is coming ... It seems the 7800X3D will be the most afordable one but boost clocks are gone 😏( 7800x3d boost clock 5.0Ghz / normal Ryzen 7700x boost clock is 5.4Ghz )

Yeah as said above. They want to push us into a crappier 7900X3D. 7900X3D will suffer the same latency penalties as the other dual CCD AMD parts do and have done in the past with gaming and some other scenarios. They prefer to sell us 1 broken 3 core CCD that can boost 5.6GHz and one broken 3 core CCD that's always the retard just like it was with 3900X, 5900X and 7900X.. And checking the slide against 5800X3D.. uphill battle still for the 7800X3D if they don't give it more clocks. on top of that seeing the price list. 7800X3D is going to cost $499 ($50 more than last gen). Pretty sure of it. Ah well. AMD doing AMD things. I will just wait it out with my 5800X3D until discounts come for AM4 X3D

Crappy what they did to the 7800X3D clocks ,even though a higher CPU clock would not help in PC Gaming anyway.Might still buy the 7800X3D unless the price is crazy high.

I like the look of the 7900X3D, ovs if there's a noticeable jump over my 5800X3D and UVing friendly.

It would definitely be on my day 1 purchase list had I not just spent over $35K on solar and batteries. Might just have to wait a month or two so I don't throw up! 😀

Looks like I'll be postponing that 13700KF upgrade in the meantime....

That 7900X3D looks tasty if there is no crap CCD in it. I wanted to ask wasn't the 7700X just power or thermal limited? It boosted to 5.5 GHZ in Hilbert's review with AIO WC.

This is all becoming such an annoying marketing ploy. All of this gens chips should have been X3D. This whole drag out tech for as much money as you can is getting really old.

Dumb question, are the 120W TDP readings correct? How did they lower it?
data/avatar/default/avatar38.webp
There is a mistake in the article, the 79xx models has only 128MB L3 cache, so there is one ccd with 32MB, which will boost to 5.7GHz and one ccd with 96MB V-cache that will boost only to 5.0GHz. This way, the TDP can be lower but it will be a nightmare for windows scheduler, because some applications will run better with higher frequency and some with larger cache, but there is no general rule which application benefits more, even some games will run better with higher frequency....

could be a newer revision, but more likely just lower multicore frequency, the cache will compensate for this, so the performance should be the same or better as seen with most workloads on the 5800x3d

shouldnt be an issue for windows, so long as the correct CPPC (preferred cores )data is given by the cpu to the os, it shouldnt matter what frequency the cores run at.

No, it will be an issue, since some applications will benefit from more cache and some from higher frequency, but the os scheduler have no idea which application likes more cache or more frequency, CPPC has nothing to do with this at all

no they are not advertised TDP are bs, keep in mind you never see such watts in normal use or gaming that's a 7950x full stock because it ran so bad I could not change 1 setting in the bios or it wouldnt boot such a great experience that 1 month later i was on intel
upload_2023-1-5_6-55-15.png
that's a 13900k with motherboard auto-oc called "msi boost" (on ddr4 because it works and motherboards are half price with 2x the bios updates)
upload_2023-1-5_6-57-25.png
without oc it's 358w for 39871 MT score amd still much cooler than intel but I hope the cache changes a lot because the 7950x was complete trash for real life gaming, great scores...totally not my experience in game it ran worse than a 5950x, might be the motherboard, they updated the bios since but I doubt they fixed everything...have you ever seen a bios crash and freeze ? thanks msi x670e 😡 the 13900k is bottlenecking a 4090 hard in 1080p and 1440p so amd def has a play here edit : shadow of the tomb raider is 0% gpu bound in 1080p fyi, older 3dmark benchmarks also suffer from this

your assuming that the vcache cores will be slower, when there is no way to know yet, the frequency penalty on the 5800x3d had a very small effect on performance, very few applications are both lightly threaded and arent latency/cache sensitive, there is no reason to believe that these chips will be any different, nor any reason to believe that the max frequency will be capped at 5ghz on vcache ccds

Okay AMD, now we're talking. Might reconsider to actuall buy new hardware this year.

Awesome lineup, but I'd gladly buy a 5800x3d if near 300eur instead of +350. and there should be a 7600x3d for those who purely only want to game.

They nerfed 7800X3D on purpose, what makes you think they'll launch 7600X3D lol, but I still hope I'm wrong on this one. I still think 7700X3D with full unlocked boost will murder all of those cpus values in gaming. And I still hope for the existence of 7700G3D lol.

Looks interesting (- the 7800X3D nerf) for someone like me who's still sitting on a 3900X. However, I'll wait for plenty of reviews and user feedback this time around before biting the bullet on a platform upgrade.
