Zen3 is more like an upgrade for someone with 2700x or 8700k. I dont see anyone with 3800x or 9900k upgrading unless ofc more cores are needed.

So, the 9900K was only a few FPS better than any AMD CPU - but we had to have the 9900K because you know, MAX FPS! Now, if AMD truly delivers something impressive with Zen 3 - even if it's only 10-15% over the 9900K, we're still good with the 9900K because 10-15% is nothing to write home about and because 9900K has huge FPS... OK.

Can't wait to hear Lisa's voice 😳

I'm not even sure it's worth it for PCIe4.0. The Samsung 980 Pro isn't any faster in real world testing than the 970 pro. Graphics cards with enough VRAM won't notice any difference either. A 10-15% uplift in IPC won't correspond to similar increase in FPS.

Death_Lord:

Performance claims made directly by AMD are not worse than what Intel has done every year, most of the hype comes from leaks, if you are into tin foil hats you can believe AMD released the leaks themselves but as always, It would be a bit difficult to believe when so much people is involved in the manufacturing and testing of this new hardware, leaks are prone to happen. And and what is your point? what is wrong about a small company trying to get back up and fight a company that has tried to monopolize the entire CPU industry for years? if it wasnt for AMD, the news would be that intel releases a 6 Core CPU with a 5% IPC improvement, as they did while they had no need to compete, if you give them the chance they will milk people with their incompatible motherboards and new requirements for almost the same performance every year, the only part I agree with you is that we should all wait for proper reviews.
You're reading way too much into my comment. All I said is, that I don't like these events, because they are corporate cringe-fests and that over-hype and misleading performance claims are an industry standard. And both of that applies also to Intel, nVidia and all other tech companies. Btw. if you check my specs, I am AMD all the way.

Few hours left 🙂

I hate these events but can't stop myself from watching them lol
I also hate this stuff but i don´t waste my time watching them. I´ll be waiting for Hilbert´s recap of it, much more informative and no need to waste more than 2 hours for all the info.

I'd like AMD to give out some gaming benchmarks in the presentation more than productivity tbh as they already have that sewn up as it is. Well, we'll see in 5 hours. Pretty exciting. 😀

Another 7zip and 3dmark beast incoming....

4pm UK time that is? I already have the entire PC upgraded previously to be able to handle these with X570 board, memory etc already done... would just have to swap out my 3900X and drop new one in. Will see if it is worth it. Very big expense to swap over from an Intel CPU/motherboard/RAM setup for start though.

If they go directly to Intel comparison in games i'd fall off my chair. I know, i know...

That would be BOLD. i think top chips will beat current gen intel by very small margin.

Well isn't that normal. I didn't care that 1800x wasn't even remotely as fast as fastest intel cpus for gaming it did something I wanted it to do and was good bit faster then 3770K I had. Now I feel 5900x might be a worthy upgrade over my 3900x actually in every field. But I don't think I will shove that money anywhere near it in the end. Wait for ddr5. With 5ghz and 10-15% IPC gains AMD should actually beat Intel in games. If they got the latencies down, since they had similar or slightly higher IPC already. 10-15% isn't anything to write home about to me. It really doesn't matter in games to me at all actually. If I had 150 or 135fps I don't give two shites 😀 but that 10-15% in productivity would be amazing.

There will be no reviews today.
Two coughs if reviews will be up prior to the 20th.

Do you talk about pc hardware more than you talk with your gf/wife/kids? Do you spend more time/work with your pc than with the previous mentioned? Oh .. is just you and your PC? If answer is yes then you should upgrade and be excited about small upgrades since this will be a 10% improvement on your life.
lol funny

I overall agree with your point, but why stop there? NVMe SSDs are only mildly faster than SATA in everyday workloads too. But, as much as I personally have no practical use for a PCIe 4.0 SSD, I know there are people out there who very much can and will take advantage of that level of speed. In particular, content creators.

Yes - AMD is aware that gaming is pretty much the #1 thing Ryzen doesn't impress in (well... AVX512 too, but hardly anyone cares about that). If they can prove they've conquered that, that's a big deal. I'm really curious what Intel would make of it if they find themselves losing in gaming, especially if AMD's default clock speeds are lower (which they probably will be).

I disagree. You can be passionate about a subject without having the latest and greatest product. A 10% performance improvement does not, at all, imply a 10% improvement on your life, even if your whole life revolves around a computer. Your perception of your experience is what matters most, and if we're talking a 10% improvement in a game that's already in the hundreds of FPS, trust me, you're not going to perceive that.

Sure, but if I didn't have NVMe I wouldn't buy a whole new motherboard, cpu and ram just to get it if I already had a top tier gaming system. That's just me like. 🙂

Actually, a lot of people seem to forget that you don't need a motherboard with a M.2 slot to use M.2 drives. There are adapters out there and they're pretty cheap.
