It is, and it looks like AMD won't have a direct response until at least late 2022, the upcoming refresh notwithstanding. Intel is very much back in the game.

I'll believe these numbers when i see them. Almost certain the single thread won't hit more than 720

KissSh0t:

What is the purpose of it having different cores? is it a power saving feature?
Yes. Similar to what ARM does.

Early 2022 with zen4 amd will take the lead again. Alder Lake is only playing catching up with zen3.

I thought Zen4 wasn't coming until late 2022. Early 2022 was for the 3D V-cache refresh. Unless we're calling that Zen4 now?

Amd didnt confirm anywhere zen3+ is coming they just showed the improvements with v cache and existing cpus.

I'm thinking the i5 might be a gaming winner big time. 6/12 for gaming and the 4 little cores to handle anything in the background. The i7 8+4 sounds maximally high-end for a gaming rig. Even just 8/16 of these cores would be maximally high-end for gaming. I'd be paranoid about the game using the small cores though. Also, I bet the price will be totally outrageous.

I think its about time that the M1 should be shown such benchmarks. I mean apple have done well with their custom soc. I guess this will help folk who want to move away from the personal computer.

you don't need background cores. the only reason intel is doing small cores is that they can't do big ones with reasonable power requirements. adl-s will be a competitor to 5900x/5950x.

I'd bet that games will run better with the small cores disabled. But im guessing you will be able to do that in bios.

who cares about small cores. sitting this one out until the ultimate zen4+ddr5 upgrade. it will be some time though before this is gonna launch and become availabe+affordable.early 2023,maybe. first 5nm cpus, first ddr5 -> it's gonna be scarce and expensive.I think everyone who skipped zen3 due to scarcity and prices to wait for 5nm+ddr5 may wanna reconsider,it's gonna be a long wait before they outweigh current platforms in cost-effectiveness.

I don´t believe this leak but i hope it´s true. Competition is good for everyone.

Is just impossible a 8+8 big+little chip to beat a full 16 core chip in muti thread scenario. Wake up people, is just a scam

Whatever the company you're a fan off, competition is the best thing a consumer can ask for: it brings faster innovation and lower prices! Go Intel, go AMD! Now if only the shortage would get solved...

Undying:

Ok fine but what you gonna do about zen4 7950x Intel?
Run for the hills and need 6ghz to compete.

nizzen:

People said the same about Rocketlake. One of the most cool high end cpu there is for gaming. Way more easy to cool than 9900k and 10900k due to the bigger die 🙂 Is temperature a problem for todays cpu's? No, as long as it dosn't throttle the cpu. Zen 3 is hot in therm of temperature, but the cpu doesn't care about 80 c.
nizzen have you tried running ryzen with pbo / power limits / disabled and curve optimize / all cores / negative 30? From 80c most likely to reach 70c with the same frequencies but better performance.

Very good news if true we want Intel to be as powerful as possible but I think Amd will have a processor with the same performance an upgraded zen 3 with higher frequency, slightly increased ipc, higher frequencies (IF) and 3D V-cache?

i dont know why some people are so salty about this leak. Listen here, competition is good for everyone, especially us the consumer. i hope this leak is true so AMD have to bring better product next year. who's the winner? us, the consumer (assuming they didnt price it outrageously expensive tho).
