From the videos I've seen so far, the game plays like Boarderlands 2. Not really something that would appeal to me. Hopefully I am wrong.

It sounds like a very mediocre game to me, but then that's what really sells in high volumes, middle of the road games that appeal to as many people as possible. See Call of Duty. This will make a killing no doubt.

Passion Fruit
It will make a killing because of it's Halo roots but i doubt it will make 500m worth of a killing.

That is...an incredible gamble.
It's hard to know whether to give props for the balls or to rubberneck the kicking of them in.
Good luck to the marketing vp. They can either write their own ticket after this or have the entire gaming universe punch it.
Respect either way.

How much of that 500 mil is advertisement and bribing reviewers? I bet over 90% of it.

And then video game publishers complain that games arenยดt profitable and cost to much to make when they spend much more on marketing, buying reviews ( cough IGN cough) and on bitches...
Dellers
I don't see how they've managed to spend so much on that game. Looks like another generic shooter that we've seen a dozen times already.
Undying
And we wont see a PC version, isn't that a shame?

The problem with building an MMO now is that you have to compete with WoW. Blizzard has probably invested nearly a billion dollars in development over a decade. The only way to beat them and build a successful MMO is to not compete with them at all and go a completely new route. I think Bungie is more than capable of doing that it's just going to come down to how well they execute their vision.

Seems like they're trying to take a piece of the Borderlands/Mass Effect/Star Citizen/WoW market. Not that all those games are similar but there are certain aspects to each of those games that this one seems to attempt appealing to.
Because it's Activision, I have low expectations. In the software world, quality doesn't tend to increase with funding. When you've got a high enough paycheck and upper management telling you "what customers really want" (rather than actually ASK them), you don't tend to care about going above and beyond for your product. I tend to like Indie games because they HAVE to go all-out on it or else nobody will care.

Even if it fails, they can afford it. They made such stupid high profit from CoD franchise, even though more than half of the games were utter ****, and together with Blizzard also milked and killed WoW (for me that is, I know it's still going...).
What they try to do with Destiny is catch two fish at the same time, for one the "console cod kiddies" and then the WoW fans/that quit WoW/want to try out console gaming. I'm surprised though, that they don't consider the PC, especially for the "MMO" part of the game, but then again I guess they're afraid of shooting themselves in the foot by attracting current WoW subscribers, typical. ๐
