AMD Phenom 9850 Black and 9750 listed

Processor 721 Published by Hilbert Hagedoorn 0

Back in early February a source familiar with the plans of AMD revealed that AMD Phenom processor models 9550 (2.20GHz), 9650 (2.30GHz) and 9750 (2.40GHz) based on the new stepping will be released commercially in April. Various media reports now suggest that along with the launch of the new microprocessors AMD will also release model 9850 at 2.50GHz clock-speed.

If you search a little then you'll notice that the upcoming Phenom 9750 and 9850 listed at an American e-tail stores.

AMD Phenom 9850 will come as a black overclockable edition works at 2.5G GHz, has the TDP of 125W and it fits in socket AM2+. It should start selling soon and it will cost $302.99. The second fastest in this line up is Phenom 9750 with the same TDP and 2.4GHz clock. It is not a Black Edition and it will sell for $278.99.

Both CPUs come with free shipping. You can order 9850 here and 9750 here.

The new microprocessors are based on the new B3 core stepping and should generally have a little higher performance due to the lack of the well-known TLB erratum compared to AMD Phenom models 9500 and 9600 available now.

NVIDIA nForce 790i Ultra SLI review

Mainboard 578 Published by Hilbert Hagedoorn 0

Next to the release of NVIDIA's GeForce 9800 GX2, NVIDIA also is launching their nForce series 790 mainboards. Guru3D will peek at the highest performance model available, the eVGA nForce 790i Ultra SLI. They slap DDR3 memory on it, a 9800 GX2 and started overclocking a Q6600 Core to quad processor towards pretty nice heights and observe overall performance, with a gaming perspective.

Next to that Guru3D has build an entire new water-cooled platform based on ESA components. Just to check how well that bi-directional component communication is actually working out. A pretty interesting read for sure. Check out the full article here:

Inno3D i-Chill ZeroTherm Hurricane GeForce 9600 GT announced

Generic News 1994 Published by Hilbert Hagedoorn 0

I'm a little late by posting this. But Inno3D released a new GeForce 9600 GT graphics card with the i-Chill ZeroTherm Hurricane cooler. The card is clocked at 750MHz with 1625MHz shaders and 1940MHz 512MB memory. Not bad.

The i-Chill HC92 cooler is made out of copper and features several large heatpipes. Inno3D says the cooler can be transformed into 3 cooling solutions: passive, standard and overclocking.

Apparantly this is a DIY card, meaning you have to install the cooler yourself (which saves you money).

Vista SP1 Rolls out Today

Generic News 1994 Published by Hilbert Hagedoorn 0

Microsoft's long-awaited service pack for Windows Vista is reported to be heading to consumers today. The RTM version of Windows Vista Service Pack 1 (SP1) was first released to testers in early February after a lengthy trial period.

Microsoft ended up postponing the public launch because of problems with some device drivers that failed to properly reinstall after the upgrade. The company cited "mid-March" as its release time frame, and since today is this month's "patch Tuesday" (the second Tuesday of the month, during which Microsoft traditionally rolls out security patches) ComputerWorld says many are banking on SP1's release.

Adding weight to that prediction, Amazon currently pins a March 18 release date on its retail-boxed copies of Windows Vista with SP1 pre-installed. If all goes as predicted, users will be able to grab the service pack from Windows Update on Tuesday. However, those expecting it to show up through Vista's Automatic Updates system will be disappointed. ComputerWorld says Microsoft doesn't plan to push out SP1 through Automatic Updates until some time in April. Not all users will be eligible, either: those with device drivers known to cause problems won't be offered the update at all.

New Call of Duty 4 Maps Coming

Games 1603 Published by Hilbert Hagedoorn 0

Infinity Ward community manager, Robert Bowling, has confirmed that downloadable content for Call of Duty 4 will be available this spring. The first map, Chinatown, is based on the Call of Duty 2 map, Carentan. It is a rain soaked, dark map that is illuminated only by the moon and the soft neon glow of signs. The other maps include a wide-open village ravaged by combat called Creek, an enemy communications building named Broadcast and a desolate training warehouse filled with a variety of building mock-ups, labelled Killhouse. Unfortunately, there's no word yet on whether PC users can expect to see the content in the near future.

Intel talks about Nehalem, Larrabee, Dunnington

Generic News 1994 Published by Hilbert Hagedoorn 0

In a conference call from intel yesterday details where revealed on Intels up-coimg Dunnington, the company's upcoming six-core server part; Nehalem, the next-generation architecture that will supplant Core 2 processors later this year; and Larrabee, Intel's forthcoming discrete graphics processor.

Dunnington feature six cores, 16MB of L3 cache, and a staggering 1.9 billion transistors. Dunnington's six cores will all be Core 2-based, and the processor will slip into the same Caneland platform as today's Socket 604, Xeon 7300-series CPUs. Dunnington appears to be a single-die product, unlike Intel's four-core offerings that are just two dual-core dies tacked together on the same package. Shipments are due some time in the second half of the year.

Then Intel chatted about Nehalem which boasts the Core microarchitecture that's at the heart of most Intel CPUs today, and we've known for a while that it will bring several major enhancements, like the addition of an integrated memory controller and the QuickPath point-to-point interconnect (the answer to AMD's HyperTransport). it'll feature a three-channel DDR3 memory controller with support for DDR3 speeds as high as 1333MHz. The triple-channel controller will appear on both desktop and server/workstation offerings, and it will support three memory modules per channel. Using current 2GB DDR3-1333 modules, that means you'd be able to cram 18GB of RAM into a single desktop PC and yield a theoretical maximum of 31.99GB/s of bandwidth
