Microsoft and AMD delivered software upgrades on Thursday to fix two performance issues with Windows 11. Problems with L3 cache latency and the "Preferred Cores" mechanism. The issues reduce Ryzen processor performance on Windows 11 by up to 15%.

Both concerns are resolved separately. A Windows Update patch fixes the L3 cache delay fault and is currently available as an Update Preview (an Update Preview is not a "beta," but a software update released ahead of its designated "patch Tuesday"). The Update Preview is KB5006746, and it updates Windows 11 systems to "build 22000.282." The upcoming version restores the UEFI-CPPC2 Preferred Cores mechanism. This is an AMD Chipset Software update. You'll need to download and install:

We have confirmed that the fixes indeed solve the aforementioned issues. The latency of the L3 cache before the update (upper left of the image) is 32.9ns, but after applying the update it is 11.2ns. It has dropped to the same level as Windows 10.
