Ubisoft and Microsoft announce E3 2020 conferences will become digital conferences

3 2020 was canceled due to the coronavirus outbreak, now  Microsoft and Ubisoft announced that they would still reveal the planned news, only through digital events.

In ESA's statement about the cancellation of E3, it was suggested that an online alternative could occur instead of the physical event. However, a tweet from Phil Spencer indicates that Microsoft will hold a separate event. “E3 has always been an important time for the Xbox Team. Given this decision, this year we will celebrate the next generation of gaming with the Xbox community through a digital event . Details about the schedule and more in the following weeks. ”

Ubisoft has not confirmed anything yet, but is currently "exploring options for an online alternative."

A growing number of publishers had already decided not to participate in E3 even if it did, and to offer adjacent events instead, including Sony and Nintendo. With two of this year's biggest industry events canceled or postponed, many companies will rush to find alternatives. If the digital conferences to be replaced this year are successful, this could propel a permanent move toward digital conferences, potentially making an E3 comeback next year difficult.

Do you guys and gals believe those shows will be back next year or that they will realize digital conferences are cheaper ?
This might be the end of an era.

Business view : Once your "finance advisor" sees that lack of money "loss" in 2020 it'll be tough to budget a million dollar conference in 2021, in large companies their signature is usually mandatory to do any costly project and I'm certain they'll remember that sweet money next year
Gamer view : considering they stopped making conferences for us their old customers but only for shareholders or to sell to the potential growth chinese market they don't have a point anymore really, most of the "hype" we had as enthusiast has been crushed by editors despicable behavior in 2018-2019

For some of these conferences all digital really is great. Especially if they have a buy in for all the reviewers etc that would normally attend. I don't want the various tech sites to go under by not getting to look at content first. So say after 2-4 weeks they open up all the digital content to the public. For conferences like CES it's really hard to judge items like TV's especially say via a video of an 8K TV on your 1080p monitor.

I have a list of web sites that I would love to see go under and the people "working" to stay unemployed for eternity : Kotaku, IGN, Polygoon, Gamespot, VERGE, reeeeeeesetera forums and im sure i have at least 10 more less popular but its hard to remember their names.
