TSMC: 2nm chips by 2025, 3nm this year
TSMC anticipates starting production of 2nm chips in 2025. Chips using a 3nm process node will be available later this year. TSMC CEO CC Wei revealed this in a Goldman Sachs interview.
The CEO of the firm claims that 2nm development is well on it's way, In 2024, 2nm pre-production will start. The CEO claims that by 2025, the business will begin using 2nm technology in its products. TSMC will apply Gate All-Around transistors in short called GAA'; in the 2nm technology instead of FinFETs (Fin Field-Effect-Transistors). The technology is already being used by Intel and Samsung.
"Our N2 development is on track, including new transistor structure and progressing to our expectation. We expect our N2 delivery to be the best technology, maturity, performance and cost for our customers. And we are confident that N2 will continue our technology leadership to support our customer growth. And we still plan the production in 2025."
Furthermore the CEO talked a lot about 3nm fabrication this, followed by an enhanced node, N3E one year thereafter.
"Our N3 schedule is unchanged, and we’re on track for volume production in second half of 2022."

I'll just wait for -1nm processors. Now those will be neat.

This actually makes sense, if you think about it this way: To get one square nm of chip for a reasonable price, you'll have to go negative, so back through time to when things were a bit different...

What actually happens when it gets smaller than 1? does it then go something like 0.5?

it's all a matter of units
1000 picometers in one nanometer
0.5nm is more convenient than 500 picometers though
for intel 0.5nm will be "5A"

Intel gets left behind even more... Hnngh it's no good for the general population because TSMC has limited capacity
