Samsung Readies Consumer DDR4 that holds 32GB per DIMM

Samsung Readies Consumer DDR4 that holds 32GB per DIMM

Samsung has published a product page on some new DDR4 at 2666 MHz. By itself, not something you'd consider a stellar announcement, the thing is though, they hold 32GB per DIMM and they're UDIMMS, intended for the desktop PC market.

Aimed at desktops the kits will become available in dual-channel options of two sticks. So on your average PC with two DIMMs would get you 64GB in dual-channel or even 128GB in quad channel on a HEDT platform if you wanted to do so. It's especially good news for Ryzen users with a work-desktop that requires massive amounts of RAM memory. Intel has a 128 GB limit in their HEDTs procs, but Threadripper, for example, can take pretty much as much as it can, so going for 256 GB would not be an issue either.

The DIMMs are tagged under SKU M378A4G43MB1-CTD DDR4 UDIMM from Samsung are DDR4-2666 (2666 MHz) with a voltage of 1.2 V. The Latency values are not listed at this time. The modules are not exactly sexy too look at with a green PCB, but at these specs that not exactly intended for gamers anyway, I guess.

IMHO this makes very much sense for Ryzen systems which struggle with speeds when you put more than 2 modules in the banks. So in theory you could go to 64GB by putting two of those into your rig instead of 4x 16GB which would result in lower speeds. On the other hand they miss the 3200MHz marker so they generally clock lower ...

My 4x 8GB is already above 3200MHz. Before agesa 1.0.0.4 I was at 3066MHz.

I have to say I'm not sad that I went for 4x8GB 3200MHz back when they were not as expansive, already with the intention of carrying them along to at least my next build.
Hell, I'm not even running them on 3200MHz and I'm still fine performance wise for gaming...

With the prices claimed to drop Samsung and Heynix are now calling to tone down production to up the prices yet again due to shorter supply... and than this. This has to be a business product after all because nobody that doesn't need it would buy something like this for stuff like we use it, like gaming :D

I would go straigt for the ECC-U-DIMM https://www.samsung.com/semiconductor/dram/module/M391A4G43MB1-CTD/ over volt it to 1,35 volt DDR4-2666 CL 15-15-15-35 or overvolt it to 1,55 volt DDR4-2933 CL 14-14-14-34. Just wonder what the price of these sticks is. (put some airflow over it when overclocking).
