Samsung presents three Galaxy S10 smartphones and foldable Galaxy Fold

Samsung has finally announced its three models Galaxy S10 models. The company also unveiled the Galaxy Fold, a smartphone with a foldable screen. The smartphones were revealed on Wednesday evening during a Samsung event in New York. The Galaxy S10 shows similarities with the S9 from last year.

It's finally here, the latest generation of Galaxy smartphones is here! Samsung today also presented the Galaxy S10e in addition to the Samsung Galaxy S10 and Galaxy S10+. Samsung fits the new models with a Super AMOLED display, which comes in 19: 9 format. As usual, the panel offers a high contrast and crisp colors, but new is the increased brightness up to 800 nits in the Galaxy S10 and S10 + . The Galaxy S10 features a 6.1-inch panel, while the Galaxy S10 + has a slightly larger 6.4-inch . Both devices solve with 3,040 x 1,440 pixels (QHD +)on and are protected with Corning Gorilla Glass 6. The Galaxy S10e, however, gets a 5.8-inch display with a resolution of 2,280 x 1,080 pixels (FHD +). The front is protected there by Corning Gorilla Glass 5.

Inside the European Verison is a Samsung Exynos 9820 processor , which is produced in the 8nm process. The Asian and American variants will be equipped with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 . In addition, there are several memory configurations that start with 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal memory and go up to 8 GB of RAM and 512 GB of ROM . The Galaxy S10 + will even be with 12 GB of RAM and 1 terabyte of internal memory

The  screen has become larger and the edges under and above the screen have been thinned. As with the previous S-phones, the display continues through the edges of the device. The standard S10 has an OLED screen of 6.1 inches with an aspect ratio of 19 by 9. Three camera lenses are placed on the back. With the standard camera, you can take photos of 12 megapixels. In addition, the S10 has a telephoto lens with two optical zoom and a wide-angle lens, with which the image can be captured in 123 degrees.

Samsung  worked on the camera and sets the Galaxy S10 and S10 + on a triple setup . The trio consists of a 16 MP camera (f / 2.2) with a 123 degree ultra-wide-angle line , a 12 MP camera with adjustable aperture (f / 1.5-f / 2.4) and a 12 MP camera with dual optical zoom (f / 2.4). On board, of course, are also an optical image stabilization and a dual-pixel autofocus. The Samsung Galaxy S10e will dispense with the zoom lens and instead equipped with a dual camera. On the front Samsung relies on a 10 MP camera, which has a dual-pixel autofocus, offers a f / 1.9 aperture and can produce a UHD selfie . The Samsung Galaxy S10 + will have a second 8 MP sensor with f / 2.2 aperture on the front, this is to collect depth information for the "Live Focus" mode.

The fingerprint scanner on the back has disappeared. The scanner is placed on the front and is hidden under the screen. Samsung uses an ultrasonic scanner that works with sound waves. According to the company, the scanner works better in humid, warm and cold weather conditions.

Larger S10+ and smaller S10e

A larger Galaxy S10+ also was announced. This device has a whopping 6.4 inch OLED screen and gets three cameras on the back. On the front, the S10+ is the only one with a double camera lens. For example, portrait photos with a better depth of field effect can be made.

The S10 is for sale starting at 899 euros and is available in black, white and green. The S10+ is available in the same colors for 999 euros. The most expensive model, with more memory and 1 TB of storage space, costs a gnarly 1,599 euros.

Samsung announced a third mode, the S10e. This version has no curved screen, but a flat OLED display of 5.8 inches. This gives the phone visible screen edges. On the front, the S10e, like the S10, has a cut-out for the single camera lens. The S10e is not only available in black, white and green, but also in yellow. This model is the cheapest at 749 euros. Samsung releases the three new S10 models on March 8th.

Foldable Galaxy Fold at 2000 Euros

Samsung also presented the Galaxy Fold on Thursday: a smartphone with a folding screen that can also be used as a tablet. When folded, the phone has a screen of 4.6 inches. When unfolded, the screen measures 7.3 inches. Apps that support the foldable screen should automatically adjust to the pop-up screen. Among others, WhatsApp, Microsoft Office, Google Maps and Netflix support the foldable screen, Samsung announced. In addition, on the expanded screen of the device, it is possible to use three apps at the same time. The screen is divided into one big app and one or two small apps.

A battery can be found under each screen of the Galaxy Fold. The device is equipped with six cameras: three on the back, two on the inside and one on the front. Samsung launches the Galaxy Fold on 3 May in Europe in the colors black, silver, green and blue. Reportedly the device will cost 2,000 euros.

Galaxy S10 5G

Finally, a phone adresses the 5G network market will be the Galaxy S10 5G. The device has a 6.7 inch OLED screen, four cameras on the back and one camera with a 3D sensor on the front. In addition, the Galaxy S10 5G has a storage capacity of 256 GB, but no room for expansion with a micro-SD card. It is unclear whether the Galaxy S10 5G will be sold in Europe and how expensive the phone would be. Worldwide, the deployment of 5G networks, which promises more rapid internet connections, is expected at the earliest in 2020.

Looking at the prices of the phones makes GPU prices seem reasonable.

@Hilbert Hagedoorn you've repeated a line in the final paragraph ;)

Trying to decide if I prefer the hole in the screen over a notch... it's not as distracting I think, used to things in the corners of displays from most news and sports shows
