Samsung Announces high-end high-resolution VR glasses for Windows PCs
Samsung has announced its HMD Odyssey, high-end VR glasses for the Windows Mixed Reality platform. The goggles use OLED displays and are at a higher resolution than the HTC Vive and Oculus Rift, while the angle of view is equal.
The HMD Odyssey holds two 3.5 " OLED screens with a resolution of 1440x1600 pixels where the Vive and Rift are at 1080x1200 lixesl per eye. The screens work at 90 or 60Hz. The weight of the glasses is 645 grams. When it comes to sound, the Samsung HMD Odyssey comes with 360° Spatial Sound, providing users with complete surround sound, through premium built-in AKG headphones.
The Windows Mixed Reality experience with the Samsung HMD Odyssey has been designed to give users the very best experience right out of the box. Unlike typical head-mounted displays, you do not need to install any extra motion sensors – simply connect to your PC and get started. With inside-out position tracking, users are not restricted to a limited space during their virtual reality experience.
For a more immersive experience, Samsung HMD Odyssey comes with a Six Degrees of Freedom1 (6 DOF) sensor allowing for intuitive and natural movements. With an adjustable control wheel, the Samsung HMD Odyssey is designed to provide a comfortable and snug fit. Alex Kipman, Technical Fellow at Microsoft said, “We’re excited to welcome the Samsung HMD Odyssey to the Windows Mixed Reality family of devices. This is an incredible product and another important step for the mixed reality journey we are on at Microsoft. With the Samsung HMD Odyssey, the team at Samsung has developed a Windows Mixed Reality headset that will delight our fans looking to immersive themselves in the world of mixed reality this holiday.”

This is very good news. Given the fact it's Samsung, one can expect it to be available all over the world and not just limited to certain countries. If it turns out to be a well worth product, I might just look at picking a pair up for myself.

VR make sense only, if content exist on it. Righ now I don't see reason to get one. I realize it cool stuff. But I will not buy it just for some exotic titles.

I think 1440x1600 as "high resolution" is a bit misleading on Samsung's part, but yes, it's a big improvement over my pixilated HTC Vive (SteamVR) not that I will notice anyway being half blind.
