This upcoming chip from AMD is poised to make a significant impact in the market with its advanced Zen 5 cores and RDNA 3.5 integrated graphics.

In a recent development, details regarding the Ryzen 8000 Strix Point APU have emerged, revealing its impressive specifications. The anticipation surrounding this next-generation processor is evident from the Linux patches and leaked information that have surfaced.

The release of the Strix Point APU is scheduled for 2024, and it is expected to leverage an advanced node, potentially the same 4nm node utilized in the Phoenix Point or a newer iteration. This progress aligns with AMD's notebook roadmap released last year. Similar to the mobile Ryzen 7040 series (Phoenix Point) chips, Strix Point will incorporate the Artificial Intelligence Engine (AIE) for optimized performance. There are speculations suggesting that Strix Point may be available in two variations: one featuring a monolithic die design and another utilizing a chiplet design. However, these rumors remain unconfirmed as there is no concrete evidence to support them thus far. An engineering sample of a Ryzen 8000 processor (labeled as "100-000000994-03_N") recently surfaced in the MilkyWay@home database, which is known for hosting reliable information on unreleased AMD and Intel chips. While the retail name for this processor is not provided, it serves as a clear indication of Strix Point's existence. The chip is categorized under AMD's Family 26 Model 32 Stepping 0 household, with Family 25 representing Zen 3, Zen 3+, and Zen 4 processors. It is therefore logical to assume that Family 26 is associated with Zen 5. Although the MilkyWay@home database does not offer comprehensive benchmarking data, it does reveal some essential specifications. The Ryzen 8000 processor boasts 24 threads, indicating a 12-core configuration. This suggests that Strix Point provides a significant core upgrade compared to Phoenix Point, which was limited to eight cores.

While the primary target market for Strix Point is mobile devices, its desktop counterpart, Granite Ridge, is also expected to debut in 2024. AMD has confirmed that the Ryzen 8000 series, featuring Zen 5 cores and Navi 3.5 graphics, will be compatible with the AM5 socket. AMD has yet to announce a specific release date for Strix Point. However, 2024 promises to be an exciting year for the mobile market, with Zen 5 poised to power a new wave of high-performance gaming laptops.
