AMD's upcoming Ryzen 5 7640U Phoenix 6-core APU has been spotted in the Geekbench database, indicating the company's expansion beyond its HS-series CPUs for laptops. 

he Ryzen 5 7640U is built on a 4 nm manufacturing process and features 6-cores and 12-threads, 6 MB of L2 cache, and 16 MB of L3 cache. Its base and boost clocks are 3.5 GHz and 4.9 GHz, respectively, with a TDP set at 15 W to 28 W. The Ryzen 5 7640U also comes with the RDNA 3-based Radeon RX 760M iGPU, boasting 8 Compute Units and 512 Stream Processors. The processor aims at the "Premium Ultrathin" market and is based on AMD's Zen 4 core architecture.

The Geekbench listing shows that the Ryzen 5 7640U achieved a score of 1869 points in single-core and 8853 points in multi-core benchmarks on AMD's reference platform called "Mayan-PHX." Compared to its predecessor, the Ryzen 5 6600U, the Ryzen 5 7640U demonstrated a significant performance boost in both benchmarks, depending on the platform. Although the exact TDP that the reference platform was running at remains unknown, these results are promising. It is worth noting that the Ryzen 5 7640U appears to be the same as the Ryzen 5 7640HS, except for lower clocks across the board due to the lower TDP. Nevertheless, the Ryzen 7040U series seems to be an impressive addition to AMD's lineup, and the company's confirmation of these specifications will give a clearer picture of what to expect from the "premium ultrathin" market.
