Return of AMD FX processors within two years

AMD mentioned that the FX processor will be making a return in two years time. Very little information otherwise is shared really, there is no mention about the new architecture except that it will be developed from the ground up, it will not be a derivative of the Bulldozer architecture but a totally new  high performance x86 (x86-64) architecture.

As wccftech reported (see source link), we dont really have any more details about the upcoming FX Series, apart from the fact that you will definitely be seeing a new high performance x86 (x86-64) architecture within two years. Now the move about AMD concentrating on the Chinese Market is itself very interesting. It is interesting because a big chunk of the Chinese Market is DIY (do it yourself) as opposed to OEM based.

This would affect manufacturer tactics of shipping lower end products to OEMs. Infact this very question was raised about Kabini and AMD replied in a negative by stating that Kabini is not meant for the high performance demanding DIY sector and is mostly OEM based so it will not be appearing in the Chinese market anytime soon. We already know AMD has a new architecture planned for 2016 and needless to say the following years are going to become very interesting for Red.

2 years is an awful lot of time. Does this mean that in these 2 years AMD will ship only APUs? I don`t think that todays FX series will last that long. Meanwhile Intel will be free to do whatever the hell they want with the CPU market.

I`m not sure that this is all good news. Besides, who knows what will the cpu market demand be in 2016!

2 years is probably the time they need to short out the performance and get the new architecture up to snuff. Intel are destroying them in the mainstream and high end segment. Sure they offer excellent bang per buck without a shadow of a doubt that is true. But Intel still performs better, overclocks better, uses less energy, etc. Where AMD shine is in the APU market, their chips completely destroy Intel's offering, their iGPU's are immense and can only get better. Focusing their efforts on releasing affordable APU's now so they can make some money is a great idea, that money can then be pumped into R&D for their higher end chips.

As much as people think AMD will go out of business, they won't. Intel as much as they are competitors need AMD as much as AMD needs Intel.

meanwhile intel will continue to take a dump on the i7 prices.

BUT this is good news. I seriously hope amd will come up with a great architecture. considering that intel's been focusing on power consumption lately, amd now has a real chance to catch up and compete, even if the chips are likely to be power-hungry. at least no more 200W tdp overclocked-to-hell chips that barely compete.. fingers crossed.

At least they are doing something !

If I remember correctly, two years ago they said they will completely exit the high-performance CPU market.

Go AMD, never give up !
