Radeon R9 280X could be a rebadged HD 7970 GHz Edition

Radeon R9 280X could be a rebadged HD 7970 GHz Edition

AMD will still need to make this official on its Hawaii GPU release event, but gossip right now dictates that the Radeon R9 290 series will be the only really new products in AMD's new graphics card lineup as the Radeon Rx 200 series likely is a respin product. The Radeon R9 280X would be an optimized Radeon HD 7970 GHz Edition with maaybe a clockspeed bump. The R9 280X is to be released roughly mid-October, most of these cards will use custom designs.

Of course we have no idea how valid this information really is as it remains an internet rumor. In the upcoming hours more info will be unfolded, of course.
