Logitech re-releases MX518 mouse with a new sensor

Logitech announces its MX518 mouse again. The gaming mouse was popular in the past and the company says it will therefore release a new version. The mouse retains its original shape but will receive a new sensor.

The MX518 will be fitted with a Hero 16K sensor. The 2005 model MX518, when released had a sensor with a resolution of 1800dpi. The mouse gets a 32bit arm processor, which should lead to a response time of 1ms. Currently, interested parties can pre-order for $60, however, a release date is TBA.

-- Logitech --

The reborn MX518 retains the same shape and feel of the original that made it famous but is updated to the very latest, next-generation technologies, including HERO 16K sensor and the addition of a 32-bit ARM processor for a super fast 1 ms report rate. The MX518 also features eight programmable buttons so you can bind custom commands. With onboard memory, you can also save your preferences directly to the mouse, so you can use it on different systems without the need to install custom software or reconfigure your settings.

But we didn't just improve the inside. While the shape remains the same, we updated the materials and added an exclusive "Nightfall" finish for a sophisticated and contemporary look when crafting this meticulous evolution of our legendary mouse.

It just needed a tilt wheel.

I still use a G500s myself and have a brand new one in the box.

They already did that years ago. The G400 and G400s are an MX518 with new sensor. But I guess this announcement results in more free advertising (by sites like... this one.)

This is the G400. You need a microscope to spot a difference:

Hmm... A little too late for me. I already bought a Rival 300S not long ago to replace my ailing Rival 300. A pity, MX518 was a great piece of mousery.

I might just get one for old times' sake to replace my g303. I really mistreated mine in the early CSS days through high school and it never let me down.
