Introducing Handle - The Robot
You probably already have seen this, but if not then this is a must see. This is getting really scary. Handle is a research robot that stands 6.5 ft tall, travels at 9 mph and jumps 4 feet vertically. It uses electric power to operate both electric and hydraulic actuators, with a range of about 15 miles on one battery charge.
Handle uses many of the same dynamics, balance and mobile manipulation principles found in the quadruped and biped robots we build, but with only about 10 actuated joints, it is significantly less complex. Wheels are efficient on flat surfaces while legs can go almost anywhere: by combining wheels and legs Handle can have the best of both worlds.

I am not a doomsayer, but I have a firm belief that if "scientists" are not careful enough (and by the very difinition and all the history of humanity - they are not), such machines might become our undoing.

Even without any AI included things can get pretty messed up.
I guess the current race is to have the first robot that can be a better soldier than any human, since all the big continents seem to flex theirs to each other.

Don't need A.I.
All you need is some dxckhead uploading a "virus" that causes the machine to kill everything and we have a major "incident" on our hands.

I think the marketing men are even worse than the scientists. "New gizmo? Let's put it on the cloud because the IoT is trending now. What could possibly go wrong?"
